I can't remember from my demo ride, does the Tenere have a helmet lock on it? Where? I sure would miss that!

Helmet locks are great until someone that is of less moral fiber comes by with a razor or knife and cuts the chin strap clean through and takes the helmet leaving the D-Rings hanging on the bike. They don't care about the strap they just want the helmet. Just food for thought.

Wow, that sucks! I hope you are not speaking from experience, but your tone and level of detail suggest that you are. :-[
I commute pretty much every day 8-9 months out of the year and have a pretty safe parking spot. I always lock my helmet on there and have never had an issue. I also usually leave my riding jacket in a soft sided saddle bag, just zipped, no lock. I even forgot my GPS one day and it sat there all day untouched.
I know that anything could happen, but so far so good. I just really don't want to have to carry my helmet in each day.

Thank the Lord no personal experience but I coach all the MSF courses and the riders coming in have stories to share. Not so much the grungy helmets it's the Arai's, Shoei's hight dollar stuff they can try and resell, pawn etc. If your at work it should be fine I take my stuff inside because of the heat here in VA. My helmet stays nice and cool inside also no one is banging the helmet into the bike if they walk by too close and hit it. Just personal preference to answer your original question I'm not sure it has a lock or not.

I looked for one on the display unit we had here in January and didn't see any. I will be looking at something to lock mine on the bike also. There used to be one called Helmet Guardian, I'll have to do a search.

I NEVER leave my helmet on any bike unless I can see it from where I am. Years ago (in a galaxy far, far away) a friend and I came out of a restaurant after having dinner. My friend put on his helmet and liquid ran down his face and neck. You guessed it, bodily fluids! He had to ride in it for a while as it had saturated the lining of the helment. For me, lesson learned!

I wasn't going to mention this aspect of it but I'm glad you did. You really have to be careful attending m/c brand specific events ie American brand events and some folks come out to the parking lot and see a metric bike sitting there and don't care for that so they take liberties with your helmet if it's attached.

when i used to park my yamaha v star 1100 , i would lock my helmet inside the hard saddle bags then wrap a cable through each wheel then wrap a third cable through the frame and around the nearest pole ( if there was one ) . then i would cover the whole bike with a form fitting motorcycle cover . then i would activate a motion detector alarm system ( attached to the instrument cluster ) which would sound a very loud alarm if the bike was touched or moved and also the alarm would transmit a wireless alert signal to my key fob receiver . i will equip my yamaha super tenere and my bmw k1300s with all of these precautions -- and more . bike theft and vandalism is rampant where i live ( new york city ) . even a completely covered bike with alarm systems parked inside a paid garage will be tampered with . it is unbelievable . i have always insured my bikes against theft -- i have even insured my arai helmets . i am amazed that my bike is still where i parked it every day . the alarm goes off at least once every few months -- and i live in a decent manhattan neighborhood .

I've heard about the vans that roam around NYC looking for a quick hit on a bike. That really sucks!

I know there is no lock on the bike. As per the rep told me when I demoed the bike. I just stick the helmet in my top case. If I have a passenger I will have to get something.

They do that kind of nonsense all over .... London is particularly bad for it. I parked my bike once ... walked away and realised that I'd left my phone under the seat ... went back to see a van driving off .... they'd nicked the Ducati 1098 that was parked next to mine. All in less than two minutes. The bike even had a chain and disc lock.

Perhaps wearing a cheap(er), old helmet in risky areas would be an answer.

This is an easy, no-brain(literally) fix for me :D

I took the locks off the bracket and mounted on my HT panniers last time.

Cheap option.

Other options.

More often than not, when stopped for a break or meal, I simply leave my helmet on the bike unsecured. Never had a problem in about 40 years of riding all across the US and Canada.

The wife and I for the last 5 or so years do all are touring in the USA just got back from a 13,000 km trip to the west coast without any problems never do have any. Like ColoRider we leave the helmets on the bikes. Any way hope I did not piss you off SisuTen or any one ells. To tell you the truth Colorado blew me a way and I am hoping Rod will adopt me when I retire in 4 years.. :-[
