I'm new here and a recovering BMW1200GS owner from northern Ca. I bought my Super 10 in Nov of 2012 after selling my GS and have been very happy with that decision. Anyway, ride safe and ride often!

Welcome aboard..
I'm a former BMW GSA owner, 2002 1150 and 2008 1200- couldn't be more happier with the Ténéré.

Welcome Spence. The number of NorCal Tenere Riders is growing.

Check the Regions forum.

If you like Colorado check the Colorado 2013 trip June 24-28.

We gotta get a NorCal Ride happening soon. Maybe a Lake Berryessa and surrounding area.

Next week I am flying to Las Vegas for the SHOT Show and the following week I am going to ride (weather considerations) to Seiad Valley (Hwy 96) to visit a friend http://goo.gl/maps/gWpKG .

Thanks everyone for warm welcome! I am quite happy with my decision to switch from GS to the Tenere, and would be happy to share my opinion on any comparison questions anyone might have!!

Another ::004:: and hello from Texas.

What do you like about the XT over the GS and how was your BMW ownership?

I just can't ever bring myself to call my Yamaha Tenere a S10. I think Chevy every time I see it and I did not like those trucks. (Old I am) :)

I am old! I just saw the S10 at the end of Spence. OOPS! :-[ :) Dang it........ I said S10 again ::010::

Combo, the things I didn't like about the GS are,
the breaks were horrible,
the dry clutch felt weak,
the bike didn't handle very well at all to me,
the trans shifted very clunky,
off road, I had no confidence on it and I cut my teeth riding off road,
and nearly every seal on that bike had to be replaced at my cost ( out of warranty) plus the trans seal leaked on the dry clutch and that was $700 by itself. The bike only had 12K miles on it!
The GS has a hugh following and it is a great bike to some people, I expect more from a $16K (used!)bike then it delivered.
The Tenere (I'll call it that for this post :) ) does what I want it to do and does it very well so far. If you look at maintenance on both bike, the Tenere is miles ahead for the do it yourself guys.
I don't want to sound like I'm trash talking the GS, it's just not for me. I will say the GS sheds heat very well for an air/oil cooled bike, riding in the Ca heat was never a problem. Hope that helps!!

Thanks SpenceS10,

Sorry you had many of the same problems others have had with the GS but glad you made your way over to the Yamaha.

And thank you for being kind to me in your last post. ;D

Greetings from North Texas! My dad rides a GS and it seems at least once a year he has to take it to the dealer for something. The last time was for a new final drive. BMW covered it all, but what a hassle. Still, its fun to ride when I visit. Much prefer my ST.
