Just want to introduce myself. I am from Tuscaloosa, Alabama and currently ride a V-Star 950. Now being 6'3 and 240lbs I am looking for something more comfortable to ride long distances. Currently I can handle 30 minutes and my entire mid section is tingling numb. After a 20 year absence I have just been riding for a year so I am still building my confidence. I am heavily leaning toward purchasing a Super Tenere not so much for the "Adventure" style riding, don't get me wrong something I might enjoy exploring later, but for the ergos and long distance comfort vs. a cruiser. I look forward to learning a lot and hopefully one day contributing a ton.

Thanks.

The Tenere is the first bike I've had that I've ridden more than 400 miles in a day. I've ridden several 700 and a 1000 mile day. A Gold Wing is the ultimate comfort bike but way expensive and heavy. The Tenere is no feather but that's probably what makes it so comfortable. Not to mention all the dirt roads that you no longer have to avoid. There are some serious long distance riders on here who love the Tenere for what they do and some guys that ride this bike like a 250 dirt bike. Amazing bike really. It's limit is really our limit. I bet you would like the ergos and the bike really is an easy bike to ride. It's not intimidating. Good Luck D and H in Cullman has good prices ;)

a simple hello, lastparrot, my switch was from a VTX1800 to the Super Tenere... the results are my back is happier,
I have travelled further and farther in a shorter amount of time, I am having more fun exploring AND riding the same old roads.....

Can't go wrong with the S10. I have a big tourer also and the Tenere works just as well on longer trips. I am about 80/20 on the road so not just made for off roading.

I went from a (very comfortable) 2012 V-Strom 1000 to a 2010 FJR for five months, to my '14 S-10 ES, which I am loving. I don't have your build at all, but it's a great combination of comfort, handling and two-up touring capability. I'll be riding my first SaddleSore 1000 on the bike in about three weeks' time.

The bike's off-road capabilities were a very minor factor in my purchasing decision...

::004:: from Oklahoma! Get you some bar risers and you can ride about as long as you can stand. I can ride Tank to tank now on my S10 when riding to Denver from Oklahoma City with very little issues.

If you do a search on here you can find a simple mod for the factory seat. It makes a HUGE difference. What I like about the bike is you are able to stand up and stretch while driving.

So I have spent most of the da on the road going between West Alabama and Atlanta Georgia. Why did I do this, to test drive a 2015 Super Tenere ES. My thoughts are that I liked it. I did notice that I slid forward when braking. I thought the throttle was a bit twitchy and with some bare risers (2 inches maybe) and new cables :-( the riding position may be near perfect.

I got to take two rides and think I will investigate a larger screen. I have been told that you can get some hard cases similar to what is on the FJ09 and FJR 1300 but I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Yamaha offers a factory case as an option, along with a top box. Any new bike will include the three lock cylinders to add to these case, should you choose this route. There is also an abundance of aftermarket options.

It was mentioned in a previous post, but flattening the angle of the seat is a cheap and easy mod that makes a drastic improvement in comfort, as well as reducing the tendency to slide forward while braking.

Did you do the test ride in T or S mode?
