Hi guys,

I'm from Portugal and already own the new XT12 "First Edition" for awhile but only now (which is weird) discovered this forum.

I hope I can learn something here and, hopefully, also help.

Its a wonderful bike, more than capable off-road (considering i'm a total n00b off-road) even on sand. Now I only have "issues" with mud but i still have the Tourance EXP fitted.

On-road only has one problem - lean angle ::)

what is the problem with lean angle? oh, welcome to this wonderful forum. We are all glad you have found us!! We here in the USA enjoy hearing about people riding the bike when we sit and wait for its delivery.

Hello and welcome to you RomKnight. Do you mean you are scraping pegs on the twisties? If so, what bike did you come from previously and is the Tenere similar in its lean angle capability to that one?

Hi and thanks for the welcome. Yes i'm already on advrider and others but more as watcher.

The problem with the lean angle is because is "not enough". I can only scrape one (left) peg. The XT12 don't have the right side peg although it has the hole to attach one

Coming from one 'cat, 2 R6 (1st and 3rd Gen) and an FZ1 the lean angles are way too short... I'm getting used to it but it will take time... I love twisty roads and I quickly forget about lean angles. Pegs and shoes/boots quickly touch the ground. NOT OK since when this happens the rear tire is at its limit. A bit more and its possible to use the rim ;D

BTW, Tourances EXP have excellent grip from cold start on-road.

Awesome bike.

That's interesting, and there was I thinking that I had knocked my right feeler peg off the bike. I was out having fun and actually felt/heard a grind from the RHS peg and when I looked later I assumed I had lost the peg in the curve. Sure there were two from the beginning, but now I am much less sure

You're correct they do not have a hero blob on the offside (right). No idea why though. ???

It sounds like they forgot to write that into the assembly instructions... I can't imagine it's intentional. Does anybody have a service manual? It should show the part if it's supposed to be there.

Venture,

Actually de parts catalog has this info (23P1 Europe and South Africa - 23P2 France, Belgium)

REF.NO. PART NO. DESCRIPTION 23P1 23P2 REMARKS

22 23P–27451–00 FOOTREST 1 1
23 90109–08174 BOLT 1 1
26 23P–27461–00 FOOTREST 1 1
27 23P–27413–00 COVER, FOOTREST 2 2
This is translated like:

22- left footrest quantity - 1
23 - the "hero bolt" :) 1 - left side
26 - Right footrest - 1
27 - the rubbers - 2

So I think that this is on purpose although I really can imagine why...

I can't come up with a reasonable explanation either. It still could be an oversight though. I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time something got missed early enough in the development chain to have a ripple effect on all later things (inclusion in parts catalog, final assembly, etc).

Perhaps the inclusion of the peg feeler on the right side unabalanced the bike? ;D ;D ;D ;D

::) who knows...

So I guess the peg removal wasn't enough and they also drilled a hole in the footrest :p ::) ;D

Maybe we will see a recall for this later? I was planning to take this up with my Yamaha dealer anyway, as I actually thought I had knocked it off or it had loosened.

Let us know how it went. I don't care about it since the LHS peg will "get loose"... eventually ;)

Welcome! I'm a peg scraper too! Not sure if the S10 is up to it, but we'll find out. It's not that important to me with where I'm at, right now. Do you slide your toes to the foot peg centers and keep your heels tucked in close to the engine cases? That helps with clearance. Your foot will float up when the pegs start making noise. Gives you a better feel for the limit of your tires. Some go foot center on the pegs and sense their lean angle with the outside portion of their boots, i.e; wear plates, then pull the toe in and foot back on the peg if necessary. The Super 10 is probably not the bike for that kind of riding.

For everything else, it looks like it'll do the job.

Jakeboy,

I came from RRs. Everything you can do about lean angle its still not enough :)

Then again, this is not an RR is it? I only need to adapt.
