My name is Steve and I'm looking to buy a Super Ten at the beginning of September.

Well, I say I am but I'm also looking at a Multistrada GT but the S10 is winning over of the spec side given that it has shaft drive and spoked wheels that wear tubeless tyres. Problem is getting a test ride on one here in the SE of England, near impossible!!

I currently own a Triumph Tiger 800XC. Me and my better half tour Europe quite a bit on the Tiger and will be off to Bled in Slovenia in July.

I'd welcome any advise you guys can give me about the good, the bad and the ugly on the S10.

Thanks
Stevo

Its a great ride. I absolutely love mine.

Been on 1700 mile motorway cruises and hundreds of miles off road.

Getting ready to leave on a five day ride tomorrow. With a full mix of roads and trails.

Hi there,

There is a Yamaha dealer in Cheltenham that had a demo S10, I actually bought mine as an ex-demo from Slocombes in Wembley who did a great deal and were a pleasure to deal with, maybe give them a call and see if they have / will have another demo some time.

Pretty much all good, we have done a few two-up tours on our S10, rear shock is a bit too soft for two-up, I had a higher spec Wilburs fitted from MCT in Stowmarket which was awesome even fully loaded, plus a re-work of the forks which now ride bumps better and give more feedback - dunno how 2014 suspension compares but I would guess the rear spring will be about the same (i.e. a bit soft)

The Yamaha luggage is a bit small - I went for SW-Motech, not the best out there, but pretty decent for the price, the Mrs did find the top box sat a bit too far forward for her liking so I had the mount plate machined to move it back 2 inches - now she has her own bike I have re-fitted a standard plate so if you go down this route and find the same issue drop me a PM as I still have the modified item.

I found the earlier model really benefitted from an ECU flash as the stock restrictions are right where you least need them on Alpine hairpins.

Everything else is brilliant in our opinion ::008::

I came from an 800XC, as did some others on this site.

I'd say that the S10 is all the bike the 800XC is, and more. True, the S10 is heavier, but it's only felt when pushing the bike around (or lifting it up, I suppose). The 800XC motor is smoother, but the S10 motor really smooths out as it gets a few thousand miles on it.

Other than the above, the S10 is a better bike, as I use it. It is better two up, cheaper to maintain, easier to work on, more comfortable ergonomics for me, very reliable, and overall a real joy to own and ride.

Thanks SPX.
I did visit West London Yamaha and lifted/sat on one. I did actually feel lighter than my XC probably because the weight is low down. Having owned a 100DS Multi I'm used to lump and actually prefer a twin. My XC is too smooth :)

Welcome along, I changed my 2013 Versys 1000 for a 2014 ZE S10 2 weeks ago today,

The big Versys has a very strong engine, but even allowing for that I prefer my new S10, which is a great bike to ride and TBH handles very light on the road despite being heavier than the Kwak.

I have the electronic suspension package and along with the other extras included within the ZE price its worth every penny.

So far I've covered 1,100 miles and have loved every one of them. ::008::

Welcome from the west side of the big pond, Steve. Interesting that you are looking at a Multistrada. I just had the opportunity to ride one, as when my Super Tenere was in the shop being fitted out with a new rear tire the other day, my dealer let me borrow one overnight. While I enjoyed riding the Ducati, I would not consider owning it for a moment in preference to my Super Ten. First, it feels much less substantial and less robust to me than the Yamaha. That is subjective of course, just my impression. Secondly, having owned a Moto Guzzi Stelvio prior to my Super Tenere, I have very little confidence in Italian electronics, and the Multistrada is brimming with electronic gizmos. Thirdly, the seat on the Ducati felt like a brick. I suppose that can be remedied rather easily by the after-market, but I find my own bike's OEM seat very comfortable. Finally, the Ducati is chain driven. That may not be a deal breaker for all, but it certainly would be for me.

Cheers,

Bruce

Stevo,

Your welcome to come and look at the SW kit as fitted to my bike ::008::

I also have their bash plate, crash bars and the bags connection "GS" tank bag so you can see how it all looks on the bike and how the luggage goes on / off etc.
