Hi, all.
Been looking at my K76 tires, and while the front still looks pretty fresh, the rear is getting square. Looks like most of its miles have been in a straight line on blacktop. The road conditions are changing for this bike, so I think my tire choice should, as well.
My question is, should I put a K60 scout on back and leave the good K76 alone up front?
I think I already know the answer, but I want your opinions.
I'd really rather not toss out a good tire, but I think there may be some trouble with the radial/bias business. I know that's a no no with cages.

Thanks.
Bert

No, don't put a 60 on the rear with a 76 up front. Bias/Radial is not a big deal on our bikes. It's a change in suspension setting and road feel for the most part.

As for the squaring, verify your pressures and go ride some twisties.

Bias Ply/Radial isn't a problem but putting a knobby on the back and a smoothie on the front is asking for a crash. ::001::

The rear k60 is not exactly a "knobby" , lol, but yeah, if you're planning to ride off road, it's always a good idea to have as much, or more, traction available from your front tire as the rear so you don't want a k60 rear with k76 front. If all you're doing is street you can put a k60 on the rear with no worries.

OK. Good info. It all makes perfect sense. I will use up what's left of the old rear street skin and then get a set of more off-road oriented tires. I just got back from my first real dirt road ride. Did about 20 miles on washboard, rocky rubble. Practicing riding standing up.
Whole 'nother world for me.

True that! Whole 'nother world is, for me, where this bike best feeds my soul.
So few machines in this world :) can deliver you and all your "away from home" gear to the destination, in comfort, and THEN switch roles and be your off-road weapon, only to switch back to Dr. jeckyl and take you back home.

Glad you got a taste of that formula. If it is what you like to do, you have chosen a magic machine for doing it on.

Just mounted up a set of K60's today, have to say the front was the 2nd most pain in the rear tire to mount and seat the bead of any tire I have ever done, even with my NoMar setup. The hardest one was a six ply Kenda K760 rear with dual rear rim locks I put on a dirt bike a number of years ago.
