As I add my new handlebars, it seems like the right time to add heated grips to the Ten. So, do folks have thoughts on the factory grips v. aftermarket grips?

What is the general thinking on what ones work best and which options should I look for?

I put on KTM's. They work great. 4 settings, easy install. Switch is small and unobtrusive. The only issue at all is that the LED is a bit dim in direct sunlight but not terrible. They have a 'fast start' mode which goes for 3 minutes or so to get them warm quick, they also remember the last setting. I want to say they were about $85 at my local shop.

This is the kit but search around and you can find them for less.

Just one option. Oxfords are also popular around here. If I recall there is a newer kit that is longer and fits these bikes better.

Many here including myself have gone Yamaha factory grip heaters. It is nice to have the plug n play connectors which Yammie provides up near the tool kit along with the fog light connectors. If you want to use the fog light connectors for anything else, I have the inserts to make your own harness if you want.

Cycle Gear sells a set that work as well as they need to for under $60. They put them on sale sometimes, for around $40. Been using them for years with no complaints. It's kinda like throttle locks...you can spend well north of $150 for something that you can brag about how well engineered it is :lamp:, or that might look a little cooler, but at the end of the day, they don't work any better than a $25 Vista Cruise.

I'm sorry, but for what the Yamaha heated grip kit costs I can be well on my way to a heated gear setup.

I went with Oxfords for ~$80. The "adventure" model is about the same grip width as stock and it really wasn't tough to wire them in. The kit is pretty much plug and play right onto the battery and has some sort of smart tech to shut the grips down when the bike isn't running.

I'm running the Symtecs. Considering how well they work and at only $40.00, I couldn't be happier. The Yamaha setup is very nice, but IMO, the price is a joke.

Same here. The problem I have with most heated grips is they are harder than I prefer. With the Symtecs I can use my favorite , very comfortable Pro Grip 714's.

Agreed. The best value out there is the Symtecs.

Another vote for the Symtecs. If your careful, you can remove them and transfer them to new bars. I've done that twice.

Oxford Adventure Grips. Add factory style pin connector and plug into the bikes wiring. This works well to keep the grips from using your battery if the key is off. There are some good threads to help with the process. Ebay has the grips for around $80.

That mounting location looks familiar...

Symtecs for me on all bikes. S10 has a Warm N Safe Troller for digitally controlled bliss (just be sure to coat the circuit board with dielectric grease to keep them off in the wet weather).

I have one question regarding these items (OXFORD ADV Style)

I'm considering hooking them up from the OEM Heated Grips Sockets, and I also have the OEM Yamaha FOG Lights...

Will I have issues with the current load? I have no idea about the difference in watts between these Oxford products and the OEM Yamaha Heated grips..? The last thing that I want is to fry my electrical circuit while using the fog lights and the heated grips together...?

Thanks in advance for all the valuable input!

You should have no problem running heated grips and the OEM fog lights together running on the highway. Trust me or by a voltage meter that plugs into your cigarette lighter.

Yes, and probably even warmer than having to go through a full rubber OEM grip.

OE ones suck IMO

Mine get really hot on the throttle side (enough to burn hands with gloves on) yet are barely warm on the other side, I have even put several layers of insulating tape on the LHS bars and the difference is still huge, better, but the right side is still too hot, whilst the left side still barely warming my hands - utter crap for £400

I asked my dealer to check them as I suspected one may be faulty but he tells me they are all this shite
