Just got my letter through yesterday for the headlight connector recall, just info for those who have bought secondhand etc that may not get a letter, get to the dealer to get it fixed. The issue has been reported on here a few times, seems like yamaha have reacted now.

There have been several reports including in the US of headlamp wiring harnesses melting/catching fire. The recall is to replace the main short section of wiring loom that feeds the headlamps. It is an official government backed recall in the UK that involves Yamaha contacting every registered owner including all secondhand bikes for a replacement to be fitted. I presume that the same will happen in the US. If not, you should be demanding to know why not.

I know this post is old but it's relevant - is there any way to check whether this recall has been done on a bike? I have a 2013 world-crosser that I bought a few months ago but the paperwork I received with it doesn't include a note to say it was done...

Your supplying dealer will know, if you cannot get what you need from them contact Yamaha UK (Crawley?) and then will be able to tell you, have Reg & VIN # handy when you speak to them.
I had to change out my own as the supplying dealer said they did it, yet the old thinner loom was on there and fried!! New one will look thicker, it's done as a warranty recall so the dealer gets paid to do it, and any other recalls before letting you out the door with it...... assuming you bought from a dealer. But info will be on national database.

My 2013 had one of the terminals that attach to the light bulb fried. The headlamps were still working and I only inspected because of warnings on this forum. The plastic on the terminal was pretty much melted and very visible on inspection. You obviously have to remove the housing cover to see this.

I bought it from a Honda dealer that had taken it in as part-exchange, so I don't expect any luck there. I'll try contacting Yamaha direct and see if they think it's been done (and I guess any other recalls at the same time).

Cheers.

I don't know if dealers were instructed to do this world wide, but in the US, they were told to put a "punch mark" at the beginning of the VIN number on the frame's ID plate. Another visual cue might be, and I say "might", because this is only something I happened to notice on mine, is that there is a white tape strip around the harness where it connects behind the right side fairing. See my pic. The new harness is laying on the table, and it shows the white tape strip, vs the old harness still installed in the headlight assembly, which doesn't have the tape. Again, I don't know if that's a reliable indicator, but you might pull the upper plastic on the right side and check the connector, as well as look at your VIN plate.

Yes, authorised dealers were asked by Yamaha to put a punch-mark when the sub-harness is replaced. But I wouldn't take this as Bible. Some dealers simply don't do it and some S10 owners replaced the harness themselves (I did mine and didn't do a punch-mark).

If you are going to keep stock lights, just bring bike to the dealer and have them do it again or run the vin.
