On Thursday, Ollie and I leave home and hearth for the far west.

KC to St Jo, MO...then across on I80 to Ogallalla north to Scotts Bluff and into SD, across to Devil's Tower, south and west to pickup CDR through CO home via Santa Fe trail (Ollie, is heading up to I90 and meeting me in Deadwood). I'm taking a side trip into Denver/Ft Collins to meet oldest steps-sons steady girlfriends parents....just what any parents would want for in-law dinner, a mountain man on a bike who has neither shaved nor showered for a week....picture me as Peter Falk ("Are you interested in joining? The benefits are terrific. The trick is not to get killed. That's really the key to the benefit program.")

If you'all see a pair of blue Tenere's with KY plates....wave.

This Arizona man chuckles at your ride described as "far west". ;D. Have a great ride! You are going through some beautiful areas.

Being a NM rider I tned to agree, but indeed everything is relative, after all, anything west of the Missip is "west", right?

If you Kentucky guys make it to SW Colorado we might see you on the road - have a great trip, and ride safe.

Just like anything East of the Mississippi is considered 'East' for us out here on the west coast.

I try to stay west of the Mississippi myself - those Easterner's can be a trifle odd at times. ;)

Being from LA, by way of SF and Santa Rosa, CA, I find nothing wrong with these Easterners, other than the odd way they talk (where precisely is this "yonder" of which they speak?), the odd things they eat (what is a "sow-belly"?...and do I really want to know?) and the occasional odd belief (what was the "War of Northern Aggression" exactly?)...oh, and their amazing preference for eating everything fried (fried twinkies, for heaven's sake?)

Thanks Mark,

We'll still have WY north to Canada, and NM south to Mexico to contend with at some point in the future....put them on your calendar.

From the "easts" perspective, what you describe is down south. ??? The east have this "Yo" thing going on. Coming from the great white north originally, I had an advantage because we used the "eh" as the vernacular. So Yo wasn't a stretch to assimilate :D :D 8)

.....and the soda and pop thing. Which is it? in the midwest it's pop, in the east it's soda? sheesh.

Have a great trip Anthony.
Mine is coming up and I"m going south to North Caronlina beginning July 12th.

Yo Koinz,

In KY, we call it "bourbon", eh?

Sorry I won't see you in NC...great riding...if you get to the Smokies area, camp at Kickstand Lodge...Mo will treat you right and give you a big hug when you leave.

Had a nice visit with Anthony Wed. night before he headed west very early Thurs. Even brought my camera but discovered I'd left my SD card at home. No problem I thought because every camera has a built in buffer for a few pics right? Not these new boys I've discovered... ::)

Anyway, my apologies Anthony and thanks to you and the Mrs. for the beer and snacks. I'll be watching this thread for updates from you and Todd. Ride safe boyz!!

His plan is to complete 800 miles in 100+ heat today, Yikes!!

Ride safe and have fun!

I was planning a jaunt down to Pikes Peak and found this link while checking the fire situation. Updated FREQUENTLY and covers the stuff that would hinder a ride:

Allaya'll in the red flag zones, we are thinking of you!

Sure, Kentucky was once the western frontier.... in the 1700's.

In deadwood waiting for Anthony. Pretty good riding so far but the fires in CO are making me wonder if a change of plans might be in order. A huge male pheasant tried to take me out at 80mph in central SD this morning and Anthony got held up by a herd of buffalo somewhere in south eastern SD. ::025::

I'm in Fort Collins after my 700 miles from Kansas City. No problems but 70 just east of Grand Junction needs to be watched as they had a new fire blow up there yesterday. Visible from the freeway.
