Is this for the valve cover?

Are you PLANNING a valve adjustment and just want it in case you have an issue?

or

Are you DOING a valve adjustment and you knackered the gasket?

If you are still in the planning stages, just order the gasket and postpone the valve work...or work carefully and reuse the gasket. It is designed to be reused.

If you already have a messed up gasket, I suggest you just order right now. Yamaha's back orders are historically significantly shorter than they predict.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, it is for the valve cover....

Actually I have ordered all the gaskets require for the valve adjustment 2 weeks ago and I asked the dealer to ensure that nothing was back order.....guest what ....the dealer call me in for my appointment, they put the bike apart ....and no head gasket....

The old one is no good!

Good idea to make sure that this does not happen to other inmates....

Cheers!!!

I can't recall any bike I've worked on in the past 10yrs that I couldn't reuse the valve cover gasket. All are designed to be reused. Last time I had to replace one was on a 22yr old bike with over 100K miles. Rubber was starting to get a bit stiff so I replaced it as a preventative measure.

They probably tore it when removing the cover. I reused mine, no leaks.

Time, heat and shit just happens are all reasons a valve cover gasket needs to be replaced. I didn't really mind when they re-used mine at 49k, (I had a big ride coming up), but want a new one installed at 75k miles when the next valve adjustment is done.

I spent a dozen years wrenching for money and re-used plenty of valve cover gaskets that were fine, but also replaced plenty of them that were hard and brittle. I could have re-used some of them, but they would have weeped oil. Considering the cost, I kept them in stock so if I needed one, it was immediately available and the customer didn't have to wait. Moto shops don't seem to get that aspect, and don't mind you waiting weeks for a part.

Valve check on hold for same reason. And 4 days to get wheel bearings. Riding 365 requires some luck. Even with this robust beast.
