Has anyone made a backrest / pad for the OEM rear top case?

I rode 2-up for about 150 miles a couple of days ago and my passenger complained of the top case hurting their back. Has anybody came up with a pad or backrest attachment for the case that is effective. I haven't had any luck looking round the forum - other than it appears that there were some issues with the cases breaking off the mounts and falling off - should a passenger be instructed not to lean back against the case??? It seems sturdy, but obviously under hard acceleration the pressure could be fairly substantial...

Any input or shared experience is appreciated.

Thanks!

A detachable backrest came with my 'new' ST10. Haven't tried it out yet but it appears that it would be far more comfortable for a passenger with it on.

Two adhesive strips of velcro on the topbox

Apparently the previous owner bought the cushion (light sponge rubber with a slip-on nylon(?) cover with zipper) as is, Just added velcro strips and an elastic band that slips over the box.

Thanks for the pics and response - is there any type of brand on that pad?

No branding.

Here is another photo. This time the back of the backrest showing the velcro, elastic band that goes around the topbox and the zipper so you can remove the cover.

Been thinking about this as well! What about a thermarest seat strapped to it? It's thin and could be strapped in place. And on arrival at campsite you have a seat and/or pillow? It could also be used as a fairly cheap air hawk replacement.

How about a high quality jacket with CE armor pad. It won't take up valuable room like those pads will and it's built-in protection.

I did. Used a (gray fabric covered) back off a small office (roller-type) chair. The two bolts holding it to the spring-type back support were used to fit to top box. 2 holes into box, voila. Just haven't had wifey on back to give me a report but it should work fairly well. Would put up a pik if I were a little smarter.

My wife has a Tour Master Transitions jacket with a foam spine protector in it. She said it works fine and the case doesn't bother her at all. We just did a 800 mile trip last week with no complaints. However, I do wonder if the top case can take it. Been looking at the "Pirates Lair " as an option.

I use one of the atv seat pads bought at walmart. Can strap it on and acts as a seat pad and back pad all in one. Not sure how much more comfort it adds cause I havenf ridden much 2 up lately but its definately better than nothing. Think I have a pic with it strapped on and it acgually looks pretty good imo. Has built in straps and add rok straps for additonal security to the back or base if needed.

Great idea - that has to make it more comfortable for the passenger!
