Has anyone from the UK (or Europe) changed their seat?

I was wondering this because I find the standard seat to be the most comfortable bike seat I have ever experienced and my wife feels the same about the pillion seat. I haven't even considered the modification to level out the seat because my seat is already level. I don't feel any sense of being pushed forward into the tank. On the contrary many of our friends from the other side of the pond change their seat. It makes me wonder whether the seat on the US version is actually different to the European one. So guys from the UK and other European countries, have you changed you seat or even done the modification?

The seat on my bike was fairly comfortable for about an hour or so but any more than that, I began to experience a slowly increasing pain in the arse. The forward tilt of the seat seemed to cause the muscles and tissues between the seat and my Ischial Tuberosities (sit bones to everyone else) to compress and eventually compromise the circulation in that area, which in turn caused increasing amounts of discomfort as the ride went on. Doing the seat mod helped, as levelling the saddle seems to spread the pressure over a slightly wider area,. This increased my riding time by another 30 minutes or so but didn't eliminate the discomfort altogether.

I've since splashed out on a Sargent saddle (thanks again eBay) and despite riding with it on for only a few hours so far, it seems to provide a greater degree of comfort that the modified stock seat. It's firmer than the Yamaha seat but much wider at the rear and seems to fit the shape of my teutonic butt really nicely. I expect that it'll need to be "broken in" and used a bit more before I get a true picture of how well it suits me (or not) but i'll be more than happy with it if i'm comfy and pain free in the time it takes me to use a tankful of petrol. :)

I've had my seat modified to good effect, Saddlecraft (www.saddlecraft.com) in Sourth Shields have re-shaped mine and added a gel pad. I knew straight away the stock seat didn't work for me and they've done a fabulous job, heartily recommended.

Just got both mine modded by Tony Archer - less than £100 for the pair including postage.

+1 with Tony Archer gel pad insert, that along with seat levelling mod allows me all day riding.

Still very inconclusive, almost as if there are actually different standard seats on some of the bikes. As I said earlier my seat doesn't slope forward at all. In 2012, not long after I had the bike, I did John O'Groats to Lands end in 16 hours (860 miles) and I didn't suffer from a numb bum at all :-\

I don't think there is a difference. Manufacturers would not invest that kind of effort for different parts of the world, they certainly don't do it for cars, who have a much larger profit margin and budget. No, I think it's all availability and preference, just like farkling is a lot bigger in the US than here in Europe. I bought my S10 over the phone, untested, unseen. Paid for it, flew to the UK, picked it up and rode back to Zurich in 11 hours (800 + miles) the next day. Seat was perfectly fine, no monkey butt. Although I may have been distracted on the ride by the unbearable and excruciating pain in my hips, and dosed up on Tramadol ::008::

::026:: I even have the liquid stuff now, so straight in and working within 30 mins.
Yep, that's the stuff. Only Oramorph (basically oral Morphine) works quicker, but it's really strong and you wouldn't want to ride a bike after it ! You could take your own liver out while under it's affects however... I'm happy enough with the odd Ibuprofen for my dodgy back.

A few 700 mile+ days returning from Europe to Lancashire. No problem for me....I thinks it's a great seat.

Like the leg room to.
