Hi there,

Just wondered if any S10 owner had the experience of riding with with a group of BMW GSAs owners while being the sole non GSA rider...how did it work out? Fuel range difference? Usual discussion subjects? Attitude? Feel? Performance alignment? Etc..

Cheers

Seriously, I used to ride with two other GSAs...then they became 4 in total....so fuel range became an issue...then topic discussions about options, riding modes...then it became like "who's this non GS guy"?....then like Tom Hanks in "cast away"...weird feeling...

So, since I don't read anything about a Beemer, which bike has the bigger tank? Depending on where/how a person is riding, the Tenere has a 300mi range. I wouldn't be able to ride that far without a break anyway. (but I am a candy ass) I think this kind of ride is more dependent on who the riders are than what they're riding. An asshole is an asshole regardless of what he riding. I would expect good natured "my bike is better because . . . .", but nothing actually mean. If so, make like a baby and head out.

The GSA has a bigger tank (30L)...so over the distance the stops are not aligned...
True about "my bike is better because..." but most often it is about features and riding experience etc...

Yeah, wouldn't think a "fun ride" would include that many miles without stopping. Now if a group taking an actual trip from point A to point B, I could see it becoming an issue, but there's still the issue of getting saddle sore. Y'all are tougher than I am.

Once again, as long as everybody is there for a good time, you find the shortest legged bike and let them determine the stops. My R6 kid dictates the stopping between me and the FJR kid.

I would assume, if I was there, I would have to listen to the incessant "the Beemer is better because . . . .". And that would be fine since I already know that I have the best ride. . . . for me.

I guess it'd depend on how comfortable you are with the owner of a broken Beemer riding bitch on the back of yours?
:p

From what I have read from ADV owners….they say that the GS is the better option…..The ADV has the biggest tank, but you have to carry it on a short trip too….Big is not always better… .and 2 more gallons, you can accommodate them anywhere….

the 6-point-somethign gallon tank on the super T gets me well past 200 miles on a fill. I'd carry a rotopak or something if i was really going remote, but 200 miles will realistically get you to the next gas station most places .

I'd be more worried about the BMWs having weird failures that need the dealer to fix. The super T is a goddamn anvil.

My riding buddy up North bought my old ironhead Sportster from me, when I get up that way to ride with him I can figure on fuel stops every 75 miles.

I AM the person who rides with GS and GSA riders all the time…..nobody cares what I ride on either day or multi day trips. I also own a 1250GS that I just rode to the BMWMOA 50th Anniversary Rally in Richmond, VA last week. I even saw some S10s in the parking lot.

My S10 and I are heading to Yellowstone, Glacier, and Banff National Parks next week with two buddies on Ducati MultiStradas……the bikes will all get along just fine.:)

I can pretty much guarantee that you are thinking more about GS's than they are of you. They don't care, other than having a good time doing whatever you're doing. Same ratio of nice people to jerks as pretty much anywhere. Fuel distance will be similar, other than the GSAs. Maybe a tad in favor of the S10, in terms of distance-to-fueling compared to a non-GSA.

Just go have fun!
