Handlebar riser: only good for tall people?

Hi All,

I'm seeing a lot of threads of handlebar risers. If I understand correctly these products make the handle bar taller (most about 2") and closer to you? I don't see issues with the current position when riding.

- is this because I'm only 5'8" so the stock heigh is already high for me?
- or is this for more comfort when you stand up on pegs during off-road?

Thanks,

G

I can't answer for everyone, but for me I wanted a more upright riding position and a better/easier transition from seated to standing. I only went 1 1/4 up and back, but it was an improvement for me. I came from the FJR, which was much more leaned forward ergos, but as I've gotten older I find the more upright riding position with the legs pulled up less to be more comfortable for me.

If you're comfortable with the stock position, ride on. Put the miles, (or kilometers), on the bike and see what you like/dislike and change things to suit your needs. ::008::

I am only 5' 8" and find having risers fitted to be a major improvement. It took a lot of weight off of my shoulders and stopped aching I would sometimes get after riding for an hour or so. :)

At 6'3", I raised the bars 3.5". Much more comfortable for me and standing is better.

If you like the way your bars are now, who cares what others are doing! ::021::

I'm 5'10" and added 1" risers. I like my arms straight out. It's all personal preference. I bought a pair of Tusk riser blocks from Rockymountain for 20 bucks. No issues either.

Thank you all for the feedback. I'm coming from a very uncomfortable Ninja, so I'm still in my honeymoon of ST10 comfort. That being said, I rode 4 hours yesterday and ended up with a bit of pain. I'll start paying more attention to my posture, but I can already guess that a bit taller and closer to me (pushed back) might be a very good thing.

The biggest issue with me is still slight numbness, not as bad as my older bike but still there when I finish riding. So a riser with anti-vibration might be the way to go, like this Rox one: http://www.altrider.com/index.php/product/detail/pid/939/cid/6

From what I read in other threads it looks like I'll have to also get the lover brake/clutch cables from Tabasco's store, correct? I'm talking about these ones: http://rideonadv.com/shop/brakes/rideonadv-super-tenere-long-lines/

Thx,

G
