Can anyone tell me if the GS bars and Tenere bars ar the same diameter? If so will Up and back risers for the GS work on the Tenere to get the desired up and back position.

Thanks

Not sure about the risers. But I suspect they would both be 1 1/8" bars. So probably.

However, nothing will get rid of that crazy "sweep" the OEM bars have.

Even Mr. OEM (RonH :) .....kinda scarce around here lately) would have to admit the Tenere bars are nowhere near "middle of the road" bars. I consider them extreme, after seeing their dimensions listed in a spreadsheet that some member put together. That spreadsheet listed almost every bar on the market. And while I could live with the fact the Tenere bars were some of the widest bars available, the severe sweep angle was way outside the norm.

Turned out to be the source for my shoulder discomfort on longer rides.

Sorry for the small rant. Hope the risers work for you. :)

Here is the link to the excel version but hosted on Google Docs - it should just download. I added a column for diameter and control plane. The diameter is based on a parsing of the description. :)

Here is the Google Doc version:

there is a long thread here: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=5113.30

I think I will start a thread just for the bar spreadsheet. Little changes on bars can yield huge results. Visit reply 97 to see how to find the right spot for your bars: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=5113.90

You may find that just rotating the current ones does the trick.

Why not use the one up, one back riser for the Tenere instead? It might bolt up to the top clamp easier.

I've ridden a lot of bikes and mountain bikes and never experienced any kind of discomfort like with the stock bars. Risers did not help. Still working on solution not a big fan or trial and error / shotgun approach. Really an unfortunate issue for such a great bike.

Well yeah, if the bend is wrong, it's wrong. You're gonna have to find a shop with a bunch of bars hanging on the wall and find the shape that fits better. If you know the numbers/degrees of a previous bar that fit right, then you can go internet shopping, otherwise, hands on is the only way to get it right.
Oh, and for one bar design to fit a million different physiques, I think they did well.

I agree. For me they are just too far outside the average. Not sure why yamaha went so far.

I tried rotating them first. Risers next. Then finally bars.

Shoulda did bars first.

I now think it would be hard to pick a bar that wouldn't be an improvement.
And with that amazing spreadsheet above, (Thanks again friend) it's not completely "trial and error".

Well for me it's partial trial and error with some inputs from experience and this forum, since the pain kicks in after about an hour or two. I'm going with an MX bar with less sweep but keeping the height. This works great for woods riding on a MX bike but not sure how that will translate to 12 hour adventure rides. Will found out in spring and report back.

Guess I got pretty lucky. Added 20mm risers and the stock bars are fine. I do have fairly short arms (31" sleeve) so maybe that's why the sweep is no prob.

Protaper ATV Mids... 32" width, close to same rise, half the sweep............. HUGE improvement!

I went this route as I also wanted to avoid any need for longer clutch/brake lines. I did find that with the reduced sweep... I had to rotate the bars back slightly to keep the hand guards from contacting the tank. A short riser would resolve this completely and would probably allow more forward rotation.

Any chance you could post a pic or 2?

Just curious... What do you have against the company Rox Speed FX? They've got exactly what you're looking for.

I've used a set of these for over a year and over 23,000 miles of the 26,000 miles I've got on my bike and they've been solid as... well... "Rocks". ;)

To the best of my knowledge no one else makes a 1-up-1-back riser that will fit a Super Tenere.
