I love this bike, there are a few things I intend to change, replace, or just plain remove. One of them is the handle bars, they look like they are made from plastic and are not up to the standard of the rest of the bike.

Has anyone replaced theirs? If so with what?

Thanks in advance.

Must be a Texas thing, since we are as well.

I am not quite as comfortable with the bend as I was with my 08 KLR bars. If I could find tapered bars of the same bend as those KLR bars, I would change them out for sure. I'm not sure how to get all the measurements from those bars to match them to replacements. Of course, I would first have to find an 08+ KLR to measure, since I sold mine. ;D

The yammie bar ends screw into a threaded nut in the end of the bar that is part of the bar. This is different than alot of bar ends which use some expandable contraption in the inside. I think a solid piece of aluminum needs to be welded into it, then drilled and tapped to connect the original bar ends. As for the diameter, the Pro Taper Contour bars are also 1 1/8 " like the original bars.

I have a '05 KLR and like the stock handlebar bend. I used to have a '06 DL-1000 that came with differnt handlebars than stock and I replaced them with stock KLR bars. End result I like the Gen1 KLR handlebar shape.

If you are looking for a comparable handlebar to the KLR, go to the KLR forums and do a search or post a request.

The stock ST bars are bent too much for me and don't fit my hands and wrists. There is too much pullback.

Handlebar information http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/handlebarinfo.do

If you are going to store shop for handlebars do yourself a favor and make a model by bending a shape of the handlebars you like using a heavy gauge wire. Take the model with you to the store.

Crap - I was hoping to just whack about 1.5" from each end. I really like the WeeStrom's bars and was hoping to get close to those in width.

btw - For reference, the following are measurements between the inboard ends of the grips at the top center, where the web of your thumbs would ride:
FJR1300 = 19" No wonder it's easier to thread traffic on this bike!!!
DL650 = 21.5"
XTZ1200 = 24.5" The overall width with the hand guards is officially 38.6" per Yamaha.
