OK, I admit it.
I was bored.
Needed a project.

Surprised to find out that very much of the parts are readily available.

What do you think?

You will probably be amazed at the complete lack of suspension, especially compared to the S10! Looks like a nice find and appears to be complete and unmolested. Congrats!

Is it a 75 or 76? I liked them old Yamahas but I would rather Ride than work on them.

I think with your 75 and our 75 we should get out for a ride. (I'll try and keep up) ::012:: Yours does look to be in good shape with very little fiddle finger getting at it. Seems the 175-250-400 bikes were a mainstay in our area anyways. A good, tough reliable enduro (kinda sounds familiar some how)
This XL250 belonged to my older brother who died in a car accident a year later, impared driver hit him in his car from behind and drove him into the oncoming traffic.
Dad hung onto it and parked it in the garage for 20+ years till his grandson showed an interest, we went over it together and it became his first street legal bike. He's on a VFR750 now. Still have the XL parked in the shop.
Nice to see a few of them still out there. ::26::

I remember when I was just a couple years out of high school, broke, and dreaming about how I sure wanted one of those!!!

I was still in High School when I got my new '73 DT3-MX (250). It was my last motocross bike. Within a few years, available land to ride on in Long Island disappeared and I was faced with moving over to street bikes or giving up riding. A Suzuki GT500 followed shortly thereafter.

All my buddies rode those darn things in the early '70's. One had a DT175, one had a 250, and a couple years later another friend got a 360. I rode em all from time to time and they were a lot of fun. Then I got a Yam RD350 and they all switched! We tore up and down all the back roads on the Peninsula (Bay Area) on those things. Must of been 10 guys at one point. Fun times. Enjoy!

1971, while in Okinawa, I bought a 1972 DT2 250. $600 for the DT2 and $20 for a Shoei open face helmet. Sold for $500 after riding all of the northern portion of Okinawa where there were few asphalt roads.

I love it. I had a DT175 as my first bike. I bought it when I was 14, and rode it until college. My buddies and I would ride all day on them. Keep a couple extra plugs handy, or a tiny piece of sandpaper ::025::.

It's time for a resurrection of 2 stroke motorcycles. Technology has imjproved to the point where emissions standards can be met by 2 strokes. Now you can have it all - simplicity, power, low emissions and that great (anti-establishment) ring-ding sound. Bring 'em on! ::013::

Spent a little time cleaning.

That was AFTER I went out terrorizing all of the critters in the river bottoms and along the levies. ::025::

What do you think?

My first job, out of high school, was at the local Yamaha, Bridgestone, Hodaka dealer. The owner was a real "piece of work" if ya know what I mean. One night, after closing the shop, he asked me to bring a ball peen hammer to the warehouse. He had bought about 30 new DT2's, all same color of course---and they were not selling. With slurred speech, he said he had an idea of how to sell all these bikes. We beat the shit out of all of them--knocking the glass out of the speedo/tach, caving in the gas tanks, etc. The next day he ran a full page add for FREIGHT DAMAGED BIKES---and he sold all of them within the week----and for the same price he would have taken if they had not been damaged!!! Think about this, was he an ass, or a genius? Or are people just stupid?? That was 40 years ago, and I still remember it. Here I was not able to afford a new bike, but was damaging new ones, just so they would sell WTF!!
