My first job, out of high school, was at the local Yamaha, Bridgestone, Hodaka dealer. The owner was a real "piece of work" if ya know what I mean. One night, after closing the shop, he asked me to bring a ball peen hammer to the warehouse. He had bought about 30 new DT2's, all same color of course---and they were not selling. With slurred speech, he said he had an idea of how to sell all these bikes. We beat the shit out of all of them--knocking the glass out of the speedo/tach, caving in the gas tanks, etc. The next day he ran a full page add for FREIGHT DAMAGED BIKES---and he sold all of them within the week----and for the same price he would have taken if they had not been damaged!!! Think about this, was he an ass, or a genius? Or are people just stupid?? That was 40 years ago, and I still remember it. Here I was not able to afford a new bike, but was damaging new ones, just so they would sell WTF!!
