Anybody have the Yamaha grip heaters installed?

If so, could you post a picture of the control switch and it's mounting position.

Thanks,

Bob

Coming soon, at a Yukon Yamaha dealer near you. Mr. T will soon be sporting some Yamaha heated grips. It was 38 °F here the other morning. Winter is almost here. I mean, it IS August. R

I have a set, but not installed yet.

I am going to mount the Yamaha controller like a French bloke did and posted over on ADVRider (pic seems to be gone now)....he made a simple flat plate that went across the opening below the instrument cluster, from side to side. Lots of room to mount the heat controller, a couple of Powerlets and a voltmeter.

I got the bike 2 dys ago, after only learning of them in early July when looking for a new ride. Got lucky and located one 1.5 hrs from my house at a dlr who ordered 1 that had gone unclaimed. Altho I was looking at AltRider and Caribou accessories dlr had ordered and installed all OEM farkles, 'as per the sales poster'. so I gladly took them, at a descent discount; Inclusing the grip heaters.

The control is mounted bet the L-side mirror and the handlebar. Control has 3 mount points(holes), they used the fwd hole. I can take a pict if it helps but as I just signed up it may take me a month of sundays to figure out how to post. ;o)

found this doing a search for grip heaters.......

I installed reg old heaters and not the OEM expensive ones. I just need help tapping onto a power point that will go on/off with the key switch. I thought the 20 amp option fuse would but it stays hot. Where did you all tap power from? Is there a way I can get the 12 volts from the OEM plug? If so where is it? I am told there is a pulg somehwere I can hook up to vice hitting a wire with a half tap near the fuse block.

thanks

The way I have may be a bit more involved than what you want/need....I have several farkles so I put in a fuse box; I found the running light wire under the seat and tapped into it with a relay. The relay turns "on" when the bike is turned on but it pulls it's 'juice' from the battery (the purpose of the relay). The relay then provides power to the fuse box and now I can run my extra farkles (with fuses).

If you need the schematics on a relay:
# 30 goes to the battery
# 85 goes to a GOOD ground
# 86 comes from a keyed power source (like a running light, not a break light)
# 87 goes to the device that you want to power.

I started into but gave up, I never saw a wire number but I was only at the fuse box(es). Can I find a schematic somewhere? I would rather not do the fuse box, saw that post, just need to see what does what so I can find the correct power.

Has anyone had particularly good luck with any aftermarket grip heaters. Whether they be the full grip or just the bar heater wrap style?

I installed the Symtec grip heaters regulated with a HeatTroller:
http://www.warmnsafe.com/heated-handgrip-wrap-single-semi-mount-handgrip-heat-troller-kit/

I used the EasternBeaver connector to tie these into the OEM heated grip connector on the bike.

I am very pleased with the results. I very rarely turn the heattroller over half way. My hands are toasty in the high 30s. Recommended...
