Ello ello all,

I've been a long time lurker, but thought I'd say hello :)

I've got a 2012 S10, owned it for about 1.5 years and put 10k miles on in that time. Now sitting nicely at just under 20k.

I ride this bike everyday, come whatever weather - 70 miles everyday from South Warwickshire to Birmingham city centre for work. It filters like a dream because of its narrow design (I don't think there is a litre+ adventure bike that can do it as good as the S10).

I was recently considering changing the S10 for an Explorer mainly because of the smoother engine for town riding, but I couldn't do it. I've decided to give her some love instead so i've ordered a 2014 clutch basket from the States. I also plan to change the clutch fluid and balance the throttle bodies. She also had new rubber yesterday :)

Look forward to getting stuck into the forum chat a bit more!

I'll post a pic later if I get chance!

Moho.

Hi There

Welcome from Kent.

Please can I ask exactly what you mean regarding changing the clutch basket.

I have heard this mentioned several times on this site but not sure what the issue is that the original basket needs to be replaced.

I have a 2013 S10 with 8000 miles on the clock and the bike has always run nicely in my eyes (but I have owned Harleys for 14 years and they shake and vibrate like a goodun)so I have been spoilt with the Yamaha.

Please can you tell me what I am looking for and could it already have been replaced?

Cheers

In 2014 Yamaha redesgned the Clutch basket on the S10, it became a little heavier and alleviates some of the engine vibration that occurs around 2000-3500rpm when accelerating, or at least thats what is suppose to happen. Quite a few owners have said that it really transforms the smoothness and vibes - and I must admit, it is rather vibey.

The clutch basket is that part that holds the clutch pack (plates).

I did look around in the UK and Europe for a replacement part, but its just a complete ripoff. Ordering from the states even with shipping and import duty is still cheaper, its a joke.

Looking forward to seeing if it helps, I was going to make a video and upload to Youtube as a sort of tutorial - might help someone else :)

I was one of those who changed the clutch basket on my 2012 model. I also did a TB sync at the same time, and the difference in smoothness was very noticeable, and I wasn't particularly bothered by vibrations before the mod.

I used to live in & around Leamington / Stratford, I still visit friends in the area - I've seen a couple of white s10's around there recently - might have been yourself?
