I just want to say hello to all here since I'm new! I have enjoyed the site, it is full of information and pictures! I'm 52 years old and have worked as a computer tech for the past 11+ years. I lived the last 11 years and my childhood here in the U.P. but have lived in Flushing, Mi., Atlanta, Ga., New Orleans, and Oak Harbor, WA. and have traveled a good bit of the U.S. by roadway but I want to see more of the natural wonders that this world has.
I am not yet a owner but I am very interested in this segment and I'm a big fan of Yamaha products. I have quite a few destinations in mind once I get a ST so don't be surprised if this yooper shows up in a location near you. ;)
I currently own a '92 Vmax and enjoy it immensely but since I sold my 4 wheeler a couple years ago I have been missing the dirt riding aspect of motorized recreation. I thought about the incoveinence of having to trailer the quad to some places and coupled with wanting to do some long distance touring (the Vmax is fun but 5-600 miles is far enough to ride it in one day!) so I started thinking about how great my old DT250 was that I had in High School. I started reading on AdvRider about the great trips that people were taking and it peaked my interest. I have seen a few groups of riders come through my area (Eastern Upper Peninsula) on BMW's, KTM's and the like and thought that the GS was the way to go but with no dealer support anywhere near here (closest is nearly 300 mi) I wasn't sure it was the way to go. Now with Yamaha bringing the ST to the U.S., a dealer 20 miles from me it is a no brainer. I will slow down on modding my Vmax and start saving for a good down payment and then reallocate the modding funds to the ST once it arrives. Since I was a backpacker I have most of the gear to camp with so I'm set at that end. I'm getting a little long winded for a introduction post so I'll wrap it up.

Welcome!

I really enjoy riding in the UP. I'm currently planning a ride around Superior in September so if you see a black Terene that'll be me.

Welcome aboard. My family on both sides came from the Keewenaw. Calumet and Hancock. Scandahoovian through and through. If anyone would get my posting name, it'd probably be you.

I'm picking up, hopefully, my BLACK S-Ten later this week.

Hey, what a coincidence, from the 9th to the 18th I will be in Sparta visiting my brother, hanging out at his gun club, and riding with a couple Vmax buddies in the area. It would be just bad timing if I were there visiting and you were up here riding! I'll keep a look out for you, I live in Brimley, right where Lake Superior flows into the St. Mary's river, above the Soo Locks.

Congrats on the new ST! I have family in Colorado Springs area so I may wander out that way someday, just giving you fair warning! ;D
As far as your forum name goes I'm a little weak on the westenders heritage (being a eastender) I know it has to do with "having the toughness to finish the job" but I'm well versed in the exploits of Toivo and Eino, eh! 8)

Yah sure!!! It's a Finn thing. It's about what you said, though...plus a little. Had one old Finn relate "Sisu" to me as follows:

"It doesn’t take SISU to go to the North Pole; it takes SISU to stand at the door when the bear is on the other side."

Let me know if you come out, I'm a little north of Colorado Springs, maybe 100 miles, but we could meet somewhere in the middle or I'll just shoot down there. Nice bike you have already, but good luck on the Tenere.

U.P. Rider,

Welcome to the forum! We did a lap of Lake Michigan last year and it was a beautiful place to ride. I want to go back when I can spend some time to see the sights. I bet the Tenere would make a great bike to get away from it all on a back packing trip! I hope you get one soon.
