I M A UPR
I just want to say hello to all here since I'm new! I have enjoyed the site, it is full of information and pictures! I'm 52 years old and have worked as a computer tech for the past 11+ years. I lived the last 11 years and my childhood here in the U.P. but have lived in Flushing, Mi., Atlanta, Ga., New Orleans, and Oak Harbor, WA. and have traveled a good bit of the U.S. by roadway but I want to see more of the natural wonders that this world has.
I am not yet a owner but I am very interested in this segment and I'm a big fan of Yamaha products. I have quite a few destinations in mind once I get a ST so don't be surprised if this yooper shows up in a location near you.
I currently own a '92 Vmax and enjoy it immensely but since I sold my 4 wheeler a couple years ago I have been missing the dirt riding aspect of motorized recreation. I thought about the incoveinence of having to trailer the quad to some places and coupled with wanting to do some long distance touring (the Vmax is fun but 5-600 miles is far enough to ride it in one day!) so I started thinking about how great my old DT250 was that I had in High School. I started reading on AdvRider about the great trips that people were taking and it peaked my interest. I have seen a few groups of riders come through my area (Eastern Upper Peninsula) on BMW's, KTM's and the like and thought that the GS was the way to go but with no dealer support anywhere near here (closest is nearly 300 mi) I wasn't sure it was the way to go. Now with Yamaha bringing the ST to the U.S., a dealer 20 miles from me it is a no brainer. I will slow down on modding my Vmax and start saving for a good down payment and then reallocate the modding funds to the ST once it arrives. Since I was a backpacker I have most of the gear to camp with so I'm set at that end. I'm getting a little long winded for a introduction post so I'll wrap it up.
