Hi all of you on this nice Super Ténéré Forum!

Short presentation of me as a new member:

BMW GS owner from Sweden (although presently living in Germany) thinking about the possiblity to let my next motorcycle be a XT1200Z (Worldcrosser version). Not sure yet though, need to think some more and hopefully also do a test ride. I'm much into riding gravel roads so I really hope that the ST is at least as good as the GS is doing this. If anyone of you have a similar experience (changing from GS to ST) I would really appreciate if you could give me some feedback on you're thoughts in this matter.

Regards,

B

Welcome on, bnjon from Sweden and Germany. You will find the Tenere to be an awesome bike. There are those on this Forum who have done the exact exchange you speak of. They will chime in soon enough and advise you accordingly. Hang tough, they'll be along soon. Try to get a test ride if you can. I think that will do it for you. ::004:: R. ::022::

Welcome aboard! Several people here have made the switch and I believe we may still have one here that currently owns both bikes. I'm an ex GS rider myself, but it was an older 1150 so not really a good comparo to the SuperT.

Good luck!!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome to your forum. I'm not a full member until I really decide to buy a ST and I definately need to make a test ride first. BTW Rod I also own a R1150GS presently so I'm not switching from a 1200, the choice is rather between the ST and the still unknown liquid cooled R1250GS which will be released this fall.

However I really got a crush for the looks of the white Worldcrosser ST and Yamaha has a good quality reputation. Nice to know when you're far away from the nearest repair shop, and that's where I like to be (far away) when I ride my motorcycle.

I think you will find a trend supporting the opinion that the Super Tenere outperforms the R1200GS off road, and comes in a close second to it on road. Here's a video review from Cycle World that compares the KTM 990 Adventure, Super Tenere and R1200GS that's pretty helpful:
