Hello to all

I just picked up my 2016 Yamaha Super Tenere (60th anniversary). My last bike was a 2004 BMW 1150 RT. Considered a new GS, but for the price difference I simply could not pass up the Tenere. Paid $13 out the door. Added heated grips. Not sure yet what style panneries I want to go with. Right now I'm using my Wolfman Dry Bag (med size). Going with a SW Motec tank bag, ALT rider crash bars. I have a Optimate charger. Can I use the power point on the bike to keep my bike on the charger, or do I have to put a lead off the battery? Thank You to all for posting replys. John

The power outlet on the bike is meant for light duty (charging phones, GPS and such). A lead off the battery is the way to go for anything else.

If the the power point is constant hot and not switched (I have never used mine so i dont know) I don't see why you can't use it for a floating type charger. I have two other bikes that I keep charged through a power socket. My ST happens to have a connector direct to the battery installed by the previous owner.

::004:: to the forum and congrats on the new Tenere.

I use a fused Powerlet socket wired direct to the battery for my battery tender. Also an ideal place to plug in my portable air compressor, if needed. Same setup I have been using on all my bikes for the last 25 years.

Good luck!

The power port on the ST is ignition switched, so not a good choice for a charge point.

I would suggest a seperate charging line direct to the battery, may save some problems later.

Good Luck

Howdy JohnBob! I live right across the border in Van Wert, Ohio. Maybe I'll see you around Fort Wayne. I ride over that way often.
