Hi y'all.
I've just picked up a used 2014 non-ES. 13,000mi, great condition, and well-farkled. This is my second ST. I had a virtually identical bike back in 2014 for about a year that I sold due to circumstances around a health issue (now resolved). There's a much longer story that we can perhaps talk about over a campfire sometime . . .
I'm already learning quite a lot by digging around in the forum. I've got plenty of questions about setting the bike up for the type of riding I want to do with it. I'll post those in the appropriate places on this forum.
My preferred style of riding is long days on two-lane roads and gravel, lots of stops, being surrounded by glorious scenery and camping at night. I just got back from two weeks and 2500mi riding my DR650 around the SW doing portions of the GDBDR, COBDR and AZBDR. I really like the DR for that kind of riding, but I bought the ST so I could travel a bit more comfortably over long distances and bring my wife along occasionally.
What else? . . . I'm currently a professor of adventure education at a small liberal arts college. Yeah, for real, that's my job title. My entire adult career (37 years) has been spent teaching mostly outdoors. I've got a lot of expertise in a wide range of outdoors-related topics including wilderness and travel medicine, navigation, land and water-based activities and leading expeditions. I've spent most of my career teaching and traveling with novices, and young people in general. I'm starting to prioritize spending time with people around my age (62) in adventure activities and I'm finding motorcycle touring and sailing to be my preferred recreational activities these days.
I have a lot to learn about riding adv motorcycles on dirt roads and on trails - especially with a big bike like the super T.
I'm looking forward to interacting with folks in this forum.
