Hi everyone. Nev from Melbourne Australia here. I am picking up a brand new '14 XT1200ZE later this week. I am trading in a '12 Vstrom 1000. I'm buying the Super Ten primarily as a long distance highway bike, but I do like to venture off onto the dirt highways. I also like the ergonomics of the big Adventure tourers. Previous bikes I've owned in this category have been DL1000 vstrom X 2 and a Buell Ulysses. I have also travelled to the USA a couple of times and spend a few weeks each time touring around there, 4500 miles on a R1200GS and 6400 miles on an F700GS. Coming home and getting back on the Vstrom was my primary motivation to get something better and here I am.
I also have a Husqvarna TR650 Terra (650 single) which is my bike for any real dirt road adventure riding I want to do.

I like just getting on the bike and riding all day, and as often as time and money permits I will head off for a 3-4000km long weekend ride, so the ZE model with the cruise control, and electronically adjustable suspension quite adequately fitted the job description quite nicely, not to mention the effortless mile munching that comes free with every 1000cc+ bike. Looking forward to reading through all the farkling threads in this forum. So far the quick look I've had seems to reveal a lot of good contributions from members :)

Thanks all for your welcomes. I picked up the bike yesterday, and had a 70km ride home. I chose to take the slow route through traffic rather than freeway to give me more riding time (and also a bit more variance for the engine's first few km. I was really blown away by the fuel economy being displayed on the dash. After 70km of suburban traffic the consumption was 5.2l/100km (45MPG) and showing an expected range of around 500km (300MI) from a tank. That is better economy that I ever received on my DL1000 Vstrom even on the open road at cruising speed. I'm really happy with my new bike. I have a 1,000km trip planned for next weekend and first service booked.

Nev.. at a steady 100km/h mine sits just under 5L/100km. Well run in of course. With the aux fitted I can 800km on a 'tank'.

In the first month of ownership I've only taken it out of the garage 3 times. The first time was for an overnight 1000km ride. The second was to take it to the dealership for it's first service. The third was a 4,425km 6 day ride halfway across Australia and back. I am really loving this bike :)
