I want to mount my Zumo 660 on the cross brace above the instrument panel on my bike, it seems that touratech sell a lockable version but its expensive, and I don't want to use a Ram mount because I want a neater installation

Any recommendations, I'm guessing there must be something out there

Thanks in advance :)

Thank you, that looks like it might just do the job, I had something similar on a GSA I owned but it was on the bike when I bought it and so I wasn't aware of where it came from

Thanks again I'll try that :) :)

I've been using the SW Motech on my 14 for a couple of months (3500 miles) and find it to be a great mount. However, the mounting system on the bike leaves a bit to be desired as it allows too much vibration and lateral shimmy. Nothing to do with the SW mount mind you... Just a lack of design consideration with the newly adapted windscreen.

I also want to go the SW Motech route on my 14, gps curently mounted on the handle bars,

My only problem is I do alot of dirt roads and corication and are not easy on the throttle, will the screen bracket be strong enough to carry a Zumo 660 and SW bracket in those conditions ?

I purchased the Touratech locking mount and it is a superb piece of kit, very well made and fits superbly onto the 12mm cross brace above the instrument panel, it has an excellent shock absorption mount which should save the GPS from excessive vibration.

I'll post some pics soon as I' only fitted it today

Mine is frequently ridden on varied rough surfaces and although I feel Yamaha's mount solution is good, it's vibration does increase with each higher mounting position. This is not a reflection on the solidity of the SW mount. That said, with mine in the highest position there is vibration and shimmy.

Will it be strong enough for your 660? Yes, but you'll likely run into the same thing as I am as the 660 is the same weight as my 350 @9.5oz.

I have just fitted a Touratech mount and Zumo 590 to the cross bar and to be honest, im not sure its the best place for it. OK, it is in an easy line of sight, but is does vibrate quite a lot. I also find its just out of reach for comfort. I may have to try and find a handlebar mount solution instead. Agreed this means averting your gaze, but I never found that to be much of an issue before. I am also concerned that having a large GPS and mount vibrating on the wind shield may cause a premature failure.

Something like this might be ideal. But I need to check bar diameter first.

I also prefer my Zumo 660 within easy reach and find this simple bolt with Ram ball that replaces one of the handlebar clamp bolts and a short Ram arm work very well for me.

I just went the dirt cheap route for my Garmin Nuvi 1390 and purchased a $7.99 bicycle mount on ebay that so far works rather well. The bracket was a little too wide so a closed the gap with a piece of rubber I cut from a damper of a washing machine, which holds the bracket firmly in place. And the ball mount allows easy adjustment without moving at all from vibrations.
The only downside is that it's not a fancy lockable solution, but for that price?
