I'm looking to carry an extra set of both front and rear bearings when I travel. I'm at 60K+ miles now and get a little cautious around those miles. -JEP-

I would go to Babbitts.com and order the factory bearings and seals and I would also change them before the trip, not during. JMHO

+1. I had that same thought, then saw your comment. Swap them now, and not worry for another 60K miles.

Timely thread. Just before reading this I loaded all bearings into my online shopping cart. I'm at 80,000 miles and was thinking to replace all preventively at 100K or before. Also loaded the steering stem bearing.

What mileage has anyone here had a bearing fail at? Lots of different use so no two bikes the same and bearings don't fail exactly the same but curious about others history.

I've seen motorcycles wheel bearings go 100K and I've seen a pressure washer take them out at 10K. YMMV

If in doubt, swap them out. My experiences are similar to OldRider.

I have used this source also for high quality bearings: http://www.vxb.com/ I prefer Nachi Bearings from Japan. Quality as well as proper installation are VERY important for wheel bearings that you expect to last a long time. Not intended as a counterpoint, just another option. ;)

Also, the seals that protect the bearings from the environment are very important. My C10 had a single lip seal on the right rear side that would allow water to accumulate after a few thousand miles. Converted to a double lip and problem solved.

The NAPA Auto Parts store that I pass twice a day works. They're pretty much everywhere.

Just another couple options:

http://www.cbrbearing.com

http://www.allballsracing.com

I've always been curious about trying the ceramic ones. Supposedly a noticeable reduction in friction and actually better fuel mileage. Probably more rear wheel HP, but I doubt that would be detectable without a dyno test.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think these are the generic numbers for the bearings.

Front- (2)-60/22 2RS

Rear- (1)-60/22 2RS
(1)- 62/22 2RS
(1)- 6005 2RS

FYI: I just had a front bearing go out at 26k miles.

No pressure washing. Greater than 95% of miles on pavement. No wheelies, jumps, etc.
