Good Location To Practice Dirt Skills Near Denver?

Hey, Colorado S-10 riders. I'm looking for suggestions. Although I originally learned to ride in the dirt as a kid -- and it saved my hide good once or twice on the street -- I'm sure my dirt skills are a bit rusty. Is there somewhere not too far away where I could practice? (I don't think Thunder Mountain would be the place...)

Thanks!

Looks like a nice area. I'll check it out.

Must go over a pass of some kind somewhere between Deckers and Tarryall, no? Isn't the latter west of the Continental Divide?

Thanks!

You can also go out by Sedalia to Rampart Range. Might be a little more challenging though...

It's probably been 40 years since I was last on the Rampart Range Road. Guess now that I have an S-10 it's time to go renew the acquaintance. I don't remember it being that challenging, then ...of course, I was on a 100cc bike, and invincible... ::26::

Tarryall is a good area. Lots of trials north, west & south of the lake. Jefferson is a good area too. Central City/Idaho Springs. Come summer time, you could be on the trails in 1/2 hr to 45 mins. You say west side of Denver, about what area? I'm at Kipling & Jewel. I try for almost every weekend for a ride. See my earlier post about Rollins Pass this past Saturday.

Paul466 - how you been? Haven't seen you for a while....

I go by Kipling and Jewell every afternoon on my way home from work (which is up near Colfax and Simms). Home is down around Quincy and Simms.

I'm still new to this ADV thing! But I live on the East side of town and during the nicer winter days have taken rides out east. There are plenty of dirt roads to practice on. While there isn't any rocky-climbs, there is sand, mud, wash-board, and enough rolling inclines to practice U turns on slopes or starting on the loose sand on the side, starting in the loose stuff…

I just ride out and look for dirt roads. Of course using my GPS so I can back-track and find my way back home….

14er & Paul will get you going! Between them they know a ton of places to ride west of Denver.

I've been wondering what the trails are like in the area south of Jefferson.

How about meeting somewhere (gas station, coffee shop) in the SW part of town at 9:30am then going from there?

Is this an all pavement ride?

I really want to go, but if there is a high possibility of ice/black ice on the road.. I'm going to definitely pass...

I gather the precip that's coming should be over by late Friday night. Should be warm with a light breeze to dry things out on Saturday. We can wait and see what we get, and reach a consensus on Saturday afternoon, maybe?

Hope all of you can make it. I'm looking forward to meeting you!
