Hi there anybody out there using givi trekkers on there s10 any info appreciated. ie well built, any leaks, strong can they take 2 helmets
I like everything about them except they leak a little and I don't think they are as robust as the Happy Trail panniers on my KLR. The big bag would hold a full face I think or two smaller skull type helmets. Don't know for sure I don't use them that way. I love the way the Givi rack comes off. Early models (mine) had faulty hinge pins which I fixed and are bullet proof now. Rumor has it that problem has been resolved. I like the look and I am 75% satisfied.peelxtz1200 said:Hi there anybody out there using givi trekkers on there s10 any info appreciated. ie well built, any leaks, strong can they take 2 helmets
I'm on my second set. First ones leaked and I had a hinge pin that kept working out when riding. Just got back from a 2,500+ mile trip and I lost one of the hinge pins on my 33L bag. Called Givi and they are sending me a couple hinge pins. Not sure what the "fix" is, but it looks like it isn't.....Floracycle said:I like everything about them except they leak a little and I don't think they are as robust as the Happy Trail panniers on my KLR. To fix mine I pushed out the hinge pins, drilled holes all the way through, inserted small threaded rod with acorn caps and threadlocker on both ends.ColoRider said:I'm on my second set. I rode in about 45 minutes of relatively heavy rain on the way home from my trip Sunday night and there was no evidence of water inside the bags - at least that I could notice after riding for 15 hours and 885 miles................. But I was pretty beat and did not spend much time looking in the bags.Floracycle said:To fix mine I pushed out the hinge pins, drilled holes all the way through, inserted small threaded rod with acorn caps and threadlocker on both ends.
Lock nuts would work also.
I've read somewhere that on the early production models the hinge holes were too big to hold the knurled end of the pin and later models corrected this problem. Again that information may or may not be correct.
It is a shame that Givi produced an item with defects like leaking and hinge pin failure.
Am I reading correctly that your second set does not leak? Did you work with Givi directly or your vendor? Thanks

The biggest issue is the design when used as panniers, has a large pocket where the latch is that puddles water.
Even if the gaskets don't leak, as soon as you open the bag, the water puddled there runs/drips inside.
For my Alaska trip I plan on packing anything that must stay dry inside a dry bag of some kind.
