I just realized Twisted Throttle has the new Givi Trekkers showing up. I tried searching a little while back and came up empty, although I may have missed them. I didn't realize that these cases can double as side or top cases.

Has anybody seen these cases in person yet? I'm curious about how they are as far as bang for buck. Maybe Kevin from TT can chime in on his opinion if he's managed to get his hands on these yet.

I saw them at the Indy Dealer show and posted pics of them in my report on that show. Colorider has had them in his garage farkle pile for some time now, just waiting for his Super Ten to show up.

i also am interested in the givi trk46n trekker top/side case . i will be getting an all black 2012 yamaha xt1200z super tenere sometime later this summer . i like the 46 liter capacity of the givi trk46n trekker . i am thinking of installing three trk46n trekkers on my new super tenere . i want a side case that is capable of holding an arai xc ram open face helmet with the lid fully closed and locked . the givi trk46n may be large enough to store two open face helmets . i will not always ride with a top case attached and i must depend on the side cases to contain my two arai xc ram open face helmets . one guy on another forum uses the givi trk46n trekker as a top case and he fit two helmets inside . link :

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?p=15508555#post15508555

i cannot determine from the pictures of the givi trk46n trekker what materials are used for its construction . is the case made from all aluminum parts or is the case made of hard plastic ? i appreciate the overall design of the trk46n with its large interior space and i like that it can be used both as a top case and a side case . one thing i do not like about this otherwise appealing piece of luggage is it does not come in all black . the body itself can be ordered in black but the top part only comes in silver . why doesn't givi make an all black trk46n trekker ? ( my new super tenere will be all black - so i need a color match . ) i wonder if an automotive paint shop could paint the top of the givi trk46n trekker with a black color ? we shall see . pictures to be posted if and when i receive the givi cases .
thanks .

I have had mine since late January - got them when they were first available here in the US. I went with SW-Motech side mounts as I preferred how these racks fit the SuperT over the Givi mounts. I will use a 33L for the left side and a 46L for the right side. Since I all ready have a E460 that I use on my FJR, I will use it for the tail trunk on the SuperT as well.

The Trekkers are plastic, but of a somewhat different type or finish than previous Givi bags. They seem much more sturdy than other Givi bags. They are clad with aluminum trim. I doubt very much you could have this trim painted. Actually, I think the bag would look very good "as is" on the Raven Black SuperT.

Good luck!

Rod, what do you think of the two-way opening on the Trekkers? I really like the idea of the smaller front opening in case I have stuff strapped around the case.

Also, is it correct that the Trekker when used as a top case uses the same Givi mounting plate as the other Monokey cases?

The "two-way" opening is different than what is offered on the E41 series bags. On the E41, you have a combo lock to open just the small trap-door to access items in the bag without opening the entire lid - or you can use the key to open the entire lid. On the Trekkers, you select how the inside of the lid is latched and can either open the hinged portion of the lid or the entire lid - depending on how it is latched inside. I see the feature as giving an option of making the bags "somewhat" like a top-opening but not truly top opening as the opening size is not as large as a normal top-opening bag. Of course the bag still operates in the normal side-opening Givi style. Still - it can be handy for just the reason you stated above.

Yes, the Trekkers are the "standard" Monokey mount - totally interchangeable with any other Monokey mount out there. Nice!

Here's a general top case question - does anybody have any thoughts on the "rounder" cases like the V46 vs. the "square" cases like the Trekker? I really think the squarer case is the way to go, but I've never had a top case before at all, so I have no reference point. The rounder cases just seem like they'd be tougher to fit as much in them.

I guess it depends on the sort of stuff you want to put in it. If you're packing soft, squishable items then it probably doesn't make much difference. If you're gonna put solid objects, like cartons or rigid containers, the rectangular case might be better. I have a Givi top box ... 46 litre. I guess I mainly just like the look of it. Not much help ... sorry. R

A couple of pics of the 46L as a top box on a Stelvio:

Definitely an option.

Top rack option, however it doesn't look like you can use the small opening with the rack.

I use a top case for my office, so to speak. lol. It needs to carry the items I will be using on a trip like, net book, sun glasses, personal items, ect. Depending on the season, a shirt or liner. Also my jacket and if there is room a helmet. If no room for the helmet I'll use a helmet lock.

As I travel solo, this works great for me, and it can work for two up with a little planning..

So to answer you question, the round one does what I need, and it is a more aerodynamic. Also if you notice the lid on a round case appears to allow more stuff to be put in the case. At least it did on my wing.

Oh wow! Nice! I see there is also a 33 liter version that's only 9" deep. That would shave four inches off, compared to the E360s that I've run on my TDM, VFR, and Strom, while still offering quite a lot of space. I'd been planning to sit on the fence until next year, but if you guys keep posting this stuff I'll have to order an S10 just to get a canvas for all the farkles I want.

Hmmm, had not considered the interference issue with the rack. I have one on my E460 and had considered adding one to the Trekker if I decide to use one for a trunk as well (to replace the E460). Not that I NEED the rack. I just added one to the E460 as a "just in case" to tie on an extra bag for a jacket or such (light weight stuff only).

Have to say the Stelvio is a nice looking bike. Too bad every Moto Guzzi dealer near me has dropped the brand within a year or two.

Holy moly. That IS a big rascal. I wonder what the contents weight maximum would be ??? It's a nice looking unit. It might be fine. A friend of mine has an Action Packer strapped to the back of his KLR. Works for him. R

I'm anxious to actually try both my 33L and 46L Trekkers on my SuperT in the tail trunk position. Initially, I will use my E460, but as time goes on, I will invest in another Trekker.

One thing I should mention when ordering the Trekkers - AFAIK unless you order the 3-piece SET, when you receive your bags - they will not be keyed alike. I re-keyed my 33L and 46L to the same key. Takes about an hour (at least when doing it with only one good hand).

I'm struggling with the type of hard luggage best suited for my needs. I'm bouncing between the Trax Cases and Givi Trekker Cases. I'm leaning towards the Givi Trekker Cases, because I like the look and the dual action lids. What I haven't been able to find is a review that talks about the quality/durability of the Give Trekker Cases. Also, I'm concerned about the quality/durability of the Givi Tubular Mounting Frame.

Does anyone have experience with the similar cases and mounting hardware? Does anyone have pics of the mounting system on the interior of the Trekker Cases?

I'm not an insane offroader, but I do take the occasional dirt road. I'm more concerned about security of my gear, while on the road, and making a quick stop at the local diner.

Probably no long term user reviews available of the Trekker bags since they have not been available that long. But my past experience with Givi bags was enough for me to pull the trigger and go with them versus other available options.

As for the mounting option - I've used both Givi and SW-Motech racks on other bikes and decided to go with SW-Motech for my side bags on the SuperT for two reasons: First, the SW-Motech is a little beefier and uses one more fixed mounting point (the fender) than the Givi. Second, the SW-Motech keeps the space between the rack and the bike less than the Givi and allows me to use a 46L on the right and still have an "almost" symmetrical profile (center of bike to the outside edge of each bag).
