Well, it's been a long eight weeks. After my little tumble, the bike has been sitting in the garage still caked in black hills dirt and dust.
I'm looking at a couple more weeks of relearning to walk in this "boot" before going back to real shoes.
Yesterday was my first day of being cleared to walk putting weight on the leg. So after hobbling around the kitchen, I decided to hobble out to the garage....
Then I thought maybe I'll try seeing if I can throw a leg over the bike. Then can I make around the yard, next to the gas station, pretty soon I was off with no destination in mind other than heading east to the Mississippi River. Along the way, I stopped at a small airport to enjoy watching some super cubs practicing touch and go's, and saw some gliders getting tugged up in the air. As I rode along I took roads that looked interesting paved or gravel. I ended up by Red Wing and rode the river south before cutting back towards home. I ended up riding a little over 300 miles. It is difficult to shift well in my boot, but I felt better balanced on the bike than off it!
I wanted to say thank you to all the guys at the rally who helped me out in my hour of need and continued to keep me in their thoughts and prayers. It was really helpful to know there were people out there who hoped to hear I'd be back in the saddle again!
