From the first post:
"trying to decide between the DR650 or this bike as my transportation"

A little thread drift has occurred, but I think we are still on the right track.

:)
Since this thread sucks, I'm going to rebut the comment. The subject title alone is reason it should NOT be in the ST discussion. And also, the opening sentence was a bit ridiculous.

Oh, and get whatever makes you happy between the DR and ST. They're totally different. The DL650 would be the best blend of both.

There are truly a great bunch of guys here Jim. I feel this forum is closer then ADVrider.com. I found that on ADVrider you have to be careful what you post or ask an opinion on. I got my pee pee slapped on one of my first postings about "riding in the rain" and the topic of ABS came up and I said, you really don’t need abs to ride in the rain. Its great to have, but that wasn't the topic of the posting. And a guy got on my case, but we PM and smoothed things over.
It will only be a matter of time when we all will have the S10 in our garages and the good time will roll
Amen brother!

I hope and pray that we can keep this forum on track. Some of the ADV posters are duds, for sure. It's a shame because we're about bikes, not looking to pick fights or anything like that. So far, we've been conflict free and that's a big credit to Venture, the guy that stuck his neck out and started this forum. I think we all need to police this site and ban those that want to bump us off our track. We've been able to agree to disagree so far and it's worked.

We're about riding and all the other stuff that supports it, i.e., camping, maintenance, etc.Amen brothers!

Civilized, mutual respect is who we are and what we expect from each other. Our commonality is in our love for motorcycles and the freedom they represent.

God Bless us all and especially our troops that are in harms way.

You're kind of late. Some of the others here already convinced me about the ST as being the right thing to do. By the way, and it doesn't matter, just curious that's all; Are you a female rider? I ran into one somewhere else when looking for answers and she came across pretty much the same as you along with the DL650 suggestion.

I don't want to say anything negative about DL650s I just picked one up to ride to Alaska, But after riding the XT1200 yesterday the is no close comparison at all ,, your talking about a Poser bike and a real bike. If you like DL650s I know of one for sale , In three months with one trip to Alaska on it.

Not a thing wrong with the DL650, IMHO! Having owned both the Wee and the Vee, I prefer the Wee of the two. But as you say - the SuperT is in another class!!!

Enjoy your trip!!! My PLAN is to make another Alaska trip next year on my SuperT. I went in 2007 on a DL1000 (again in 2008 in the cage) and anxious to go again!

Myself and two most non-objectionable companions are heading deep into the bowels of Alaska on June 18. I have a good friend that has just moved from Anchorage down into the Kenai, to Kasilof. We'll take 3 days or so to get there, net some sockeye, check out Homer, then back to Whitehorse by about the 25th. Looking forward to it. It will be all pavement (I hope) so the ST should serve me well.

I've never been beyond Anchorage so I'm anxious to see the new countryside. If I had my Tenere by then, I'd take him, but can't imagine that I will. Hard cheese. Maybe he'll be waiting for me when I get back. I'll let you know what the roads are like. Usually a lot of construction going on. The stretch from Glenallen to Palmer is particularly nice. R

Rod could you explain the difference between a Vee and Wee I keep seeing this and am not sure. Are they both Zuki bikes?

You say you don't want to say anything negative and then the next sentence you say something that is downright insulting to the tens of thousands of Strom owners who travel all over the world, doing just as much hard-core adventure riding as any other adventure bike, probably more. Discuss the merits of the bike if you want, but the Wee is anything but a "poser bike" - its one of the most honest, straigthforward, no pretense, just get the job done, bikes I've ever owned. If there is any bike that is bought to be used and not to "pose", it is the Wee Strom.

Get back from Alaska and see if you still think it is a "poser" bike.

Displacement. The Vee is the 1000cc model and the Wee is the 650. I think so, not 100% sure myself however.

They are both made by Suzuki.

DL650

DL1000

Since the DL1000 (DL1K, Vee Strom) came out first, it was a V Strom.

When the smaller version (motor, the bike is basically the same size) people called them Wee Stroms as in Wee little Strom.

That makes perfect sense. On Adventure Rider people aren't afraid to call someone out if they think they are wrong. I remember that post btw, still shaking my head.

This forum like MTF tends to be more of a chummy group.

I would expect that if the ST ever gets its own forum on ADV Rider that a natural migration will occur from here.

Exactly! They are both "V-Stroms", but many people refer to the (smaller) DL650 as a "Wee" and the (larger) DL1000 as a "Vee".

The Stroms are darn good bikes and a heck of deal. I had a DL 1000 and that was the best "do it all, go anywhere", bike I've ever owned. I'm hoping I'll be saying that about the S10! A lot of you guys have ridden one, unfortunately I haven't, but I have high hopes for it.
