I didn't know about cct failures until I read the threads. I don't want my gen 1 tnere to face the same situation. We are in lockdown and unable to go to a mechanic. I'm not a very handy person. I'd like to change the cct to a graves manual cct. Not sure if the cct was replaced by prev owners. Im the 8th owner. But I'm more than willing to try it as sometimes bike doesn't start up. Not sure if it's due to this. But usually seems like the "hard start". Wot fixes it. But it rattles and there's ticking the first few seconds. I don't want to lose my s10. I love it so much. May I know how do I go about replacing the cct? I tried YouTube but not much guides there.

How many miles on it? It could be due for valve check too. I think tight valves may indicated by starting difficulties. CCTs usually get changed along with valve checks/adjustment.

tthank you for the reply. Its 114000km. I checked with prev owner he didn't do any valve clearance. Not sure whether the other prev owners did it. But due to the lockdown unable to go to a mechanic. Is it very difficult to do a valve clearance and a cct change? I'm okay with the oil change, spark plugs and air filter change. Throttle body sync never done it before. Only clean it. That's about much wrenching I do. Will it be difficult?

I personally have had mine checked by a dealer. I would be comfortable doing the check, but not necessarily the adjustment without someone with some experience helping. It is possible to do significant damage if the chain skips. There is a whole thread on it, and I would recommend the service manual if you don't have one already.

You need specific shims to make the adjustment, that you won't know until it's apart and you take the measurements. If you order a shim assortment ahead of time it gets pricey. If you order just what you need you have to wait, unless you have a dealer with them in stock.

Even if you use a dealer, you need to check their work unless you trust them completely. They left my breather hose off when they did mine.

If you’re not sure if the CCT has ever been changed, you can easily check........

Early CCTs have clear 23P stamped on the front of the unit. The updated versions have 2BS.

Both are visible with a torch and just peering between the frame rail and front side panel. No need to remove any parts.

Dear sir,
Thank you kindly for the reply. I couldn't find anything which looked like a cct/mcct. Is it beside the throttle bodies?

Your CCT has been replaced with the updated part at some point, as shown on the attached search on a 2013 Gen1 bike.

Part 11 shows an updated part number, which you have.

2BS is the updated version. 8 previous owners sounds like a lot! I wonder why did the others sold up so quick?
Yea I'm not too sure why. Bike runs and feels great. But I'm from Singapore and it's common for people to change bike often. We have Certificate of Entitlement which means you are entitled to own the bike for 10 years. Bike is currently in it's 9th year. Have to do the renewal soon. Might be due to the weight of the bike or something as we have a lot of traffic lights here and not much twisties. But like you said not a very good sign that it had so many owners. My mind was set on the V-Strom 1000 with low mileage but everything changed when i met the Tenere. I went with my heart on this. No matter how much research and planning you do life will always have a different plan for you haha. Will definitely do a full check on it with a mechanic once situation eases.

Okay noted thank you kindly Boris. Really appreciate it. Can I hassle you with another question. This is an automatic CCT right? Is the graves manual cct still a good option? It costs about 700-800sgd to do a valve check/adjustment and a cct change.

Yes, the 2BS in an automatic tensioner.

I really have no experience of the manual CCTs, however I’d have no issue with using one, and I know that many on here swear by them and have had no problems.

Happy to help.
