I was contemplating buying the Rotapax gas/water system until I saw the sticker price...So I asked Twin Lights Ernie from LaCrosse, WI (of famed BMW background) to whip up something more functional. The gas can is a standard 1.25 gal can, for about $12 at most hardware stores. This is his prototype, but he can turn these out pretty quickly. A couple of small RocStraps to keep the can on the bike while riding. I took the rubber mount off of the passenger foot mount and created a bigger washer to create a solid mounting point. A couple of screws from the hardward store and some Loctite and I'm ready to go. I figure this should get me about 55-60 more miles of range, putting my total range to well over 300 miles to the tank.

This mount would easily go on the back of a pannier box or even on top of the luggage rack.

I am happy. Alaska, here I come!

Clever design. As the resident safety worry-wart in these parts, I'd have to think long/hard about putting thin/relatively-sharp metal bracketry like this around my legs where it could slice/dice in a crash. But that's a personal judgment call.

Yeah, happened to a buddy of mine last year and he still does know exactly what it was on his scoot (or the car that t-boned him) that sliced his foot open..

I agree, the panniers will even grab your leg in a long stab trying to save it in the dirt/gravel especially ruts. I mounted mine in the rear. Tour Tech 4L. I fabbed an aluminum frame to mount on the back of SW-Motech pannier rack, had to weld on a tab at the rear member to bolt to.

look well smart and also can do one on both sides i suppose for really long runs or just to balance weight distribution.
