Purchased a FuzeBlock specifically for the switched relay option (bike off, compnents powered off; bike powered on, componenets on) for voltemeter, GPS.

I want to add my auxillary lights to the fuzeblock, in "switched" relay mode, but I also want to be able to turn the lights off (via a handlebar switch) even when the bike is running.

Anyone wired this up - switch, fuzeblock 'switched' and aux lights? Wiring diagram?

What fuse block did you buy, the FZ-1 Fuzeblock?

If so here are some pics of my install...

I picked power up off the starter relay. I used a BUSS waterproof fuze holder with a ring connector attached to the battery side of the starter relay. This protects the entire FZ-1.

Switched 12 volts comes the brown wire from the 3-conducter fog-light (triangle shaped) plug located near the tool kit.

best to go with a relay/switch combo using the fuze block as power, so you avoid the voltage drop of running the lights power to the bars and back. If you have the OEM fog lights you should already have the switch and relay as plug and play items. Just plug the power wires into the fuze block and put the fuse into the 'switched' position. If your lights aren't OEM, run one leg of the light power from the fuse block power through the relay contacts, then either break power or ground to the relay coil using your switch of choice. The least busy combo would be twisting the relay coil positive wire together with the power wire for your lights, then inserting into your fuse block. Then break the relay coil's ground using the switch.

If you still need a drawing, maybe sombody with a working PDF maker can put one together and post it. My Adobe has some issues right now and I don't feel like playing with it, and THEN making the schematic :-*

Here is the wiring schematic of for my Squadron aux lights. Yours probably do not have a dimmer, so you can ignore that. The rest will apply.

For my install I did not use the FZ-1 as the power source (I used the OEM connector), but you can substitute power from the FZ-1 where I show the OEM connector.

I don't know if you guys have heard, but Curt Gran, the builder of the Fuzeblock passed away during a rally a week ago.......I don't know what will happen to the future of his product.

RIP Curt

Yeah ... that's what I was initially thinking ... switched power comes out of the Fuzeblock, and then a relay/switch combo allows for on/off. Was wracking my brain trying to think of a simpler solution though ...

Not using OEM fogs - built my own circuit with a standard bosch-style relay, easternbeaver switch, PIAA LP530 lights and appropriate wiring.

Thanks for all the feedback gents - much appreciated.

Original circuit for aux lights ...

Proposed circuit to include switch for aux lights and switched fuseblock

(opps - forgot to diagram an additional 20a fuse between fuzeblock and battery)

No need for all of that. Since your fuseblock should already be getting power from the battery, use the + and - on the fuzeblock instead of the battery, and hook all of your relay/switch wiring to that. The wires going to the 3A and 20A fuses can be twisted together and inserted into the same hole on the fuzeblock. Same with the negative wires. No separate battery connections needed.

And happy to report my diagram above (post 9) works - I now have switched auxillary lights through the FuzeBlock with the additional handlebar switch controlling on/off when the bike is powered (engine running).

With the engine on and running, auxillary lights can be on or off, dependent on the position of the handlebar switch.

With the engine off and ignition (key) off, lights will be off, even if the handlebar switch is still 'on' - no drained battery.

Thanks for the assistance Ten ... ::008::

Are you using the FZ-1 fuseblock? If so the FZ-1 circuit is already fused, so the 20 Amp fuse would be redundant.

Yes - Fz-1 - http://www.fuzeblocks.com/

Redundant between the the relay "30" and the FB? In my original diagram I had that fused, as that lead was directly from the battery +ve.

Wouldnt the fuse on the FB only protect the current flowing across the FB? The fuse between FB and relay (30) protects the relay?

Yes, that 20Amp fuse is redundant. The circuit going from the FZ-1 to terminal 30 is already fused via the FZ-1.

Also, each circuit on the FZ-1 is limited to no more than 10 amps, so make sure you do not overload the FZ-1.

Sir Cum Navigate. I have done this. At first I ran my driving lights thru a switch ( water proof toggle from NAPA $20 with rubber switch cover. ) Mounted switch next to 12V outlet. Worked fine, but I would always forget to turn them off. ( Too much barley therapy). Now I installed a switched fuse box and I still ahave the toggle to turn them off while riding. When I get off the bike,. I do'not have to worry that I left anything on after I turn the key off.
