Hi! my 12 volt socket doesnt work, anyone know which is the corresponding fuse? thanks!
10 amps on 18 AWG will only work if it's solid core, which you absolutely do not want to use in a motorcycle! Stranded can carry roughly half that so you should be fine, but just barely, AND as long as no corrosion starts to develop at the terminals. When you take off the side cover its in the right side fuse block. Its the only 3amp fuse there, and its labeled. I believe from the factory it comes with a spare 3amp in that fuse block.
I switched to a 5 amp when I upgraded the plug to a dual USB outlet. just for ease of replacement in the middle of nowhere. The wire gauge (18aw?) is small but short run so fine up to 10 amps, I'd stick to 5amp for safety sake.
Hmm chart I am looked at says 15amp at 2.4 ft for 18awg standard automotive wire (aka stranded copper) That run is around a foot so call it 2ft round trip. Would I run anything at that? No problem - The reason I jumped in with the reply is that there are a lot of people who don't know any better. If you post the 18 AWG will handle a certain number of amps, they'll figure they can do it, even though you did note you wouldn't.Hmm chart I am looked at says 15amp at 2.4 ft for 18awg standard automotive wire (aka stranded copper) That run is around a foot so call it 2ft round trip. Yeah that's why I said 10 in the first place recommending only 5. I could imagine someone just popping in that air inflator and letting it spool for an hour at the "approved 15 amps" chernobyl. No problem - The reason I jumped in with the reply is that there are a lot of people who don't know any better. It's like my kid sis would say when she was a grade school teacher. If you want to see a bunch of purple dog drawings, draw a purple dog on the board and then ask the kids to draw ANY animal at all.
We had a member melt the wiring harness by upping the fuse to plug in an inflator.Yeah that's why I said 10 in the first place recommending only 5. I could imagine someone just popping in that air inflator and letting it spool for an hour at the "approved 15 amps" chernobyl.
