Hello to all

Just curious of how accurate the fuel range indicator is on my 2016 super tenere? Any input would be great.

Thank You, John

My gauge changes from full to partial at 85-90 miles. When the gauge starts blinking I have at least a gallon of fuel. Easy 225-250 miles per tank. Test your gauge. Fill up and go for a 100 mile ride and fill up again and check how many gallons it used. Next time you fill up ride 150 miles and check how many gallons you use...

Like Tim said, you're gonna have to do the math to get your base line. Figure 5.9 gallons of usable fuel. If your math shows 40mpg, that's 236 miles till you've used up 5.9 gallons. At 42mpg you can get to 250 miles on 5.9 gallons. I've done 250 miles once... took 5.9 gallons. No extra fuel on the bike. Kind of figured I was going for a walk that evening. ::26::

I find while the bars on the gauge are ok the range is miles off, filled up last week with 6 miles of range left and put 17 litres of fuel in, I'm guessing there was another 50 miles left in it.

The miles left indicator on my 16 is way off. I have ridden 20 miles when it stated I only had 10 left before empty.

I usually loose my first bar between 60-80 miles depending on speed and wind. The one thing that is consistent is when the flashing bar comes on. I have been lucky a few times in that when the last bar started flashing, I was less than a mile from a gas station. Without fail each and every time the bar started flashing at 4.5 gallons fuel used, which would leave me 1.4 gallons in reserve.

I quickly learned to ignore it after the first couple of tanks of fuel. That and the temperature gauge should either be fixed to be accurate or replaced with other, more useful information like system voltage or oil pressure or somesuch...

I'm not consistent. So I can't expect my gauges to be.
The good news is this Beast has 6 gallons on board. That's sure to get me opportunities enough

Then there is when you start the bike up, after leaving it on the side stand, and your fuel bar is blinking. Of course once you get moving, the computer resets and shows the "real" amount. IMHO motorcycle fuel gauges are inherently inaccurate due to the shape of the tank. A small, odd shaped container is hard to judge how much is left.

The Temperature gauge has been a mystery to me but I've figured out that it is not showing the value for ambient air temperature, its showing the value of the temperature going into the air intake -- once it passes through a few bits and pieces it always shows up warmer then the actual temperature outside... I've got an external thermometer that shows the real reading vs the A. Temp reading on the screen. When traveling at good speed, the A. Temp and the External Thermometer are almost the same, but once you are in traffic or anything else the differences are quite extreme

It was the day my range read 768 miles that I began to to doubt its accuracy.

The ST1300 has a similar temp gauge. It too is fairly accurate while moving. Once you stop, and the engine heat gets to it, absolutely no accuracy. The Honda's max temp that it would read was 122*. And after 122* was reached, it would start flashing. Of course, down here in Texas, in the sun, in August, it may not have been that far off.

I had a ST1300ABS last year. I LOVED having the temperature gauge right on the screen. I thought it was quite accurate.

Now I have a neat 9V cigarette adapter that charges dual USB and has a readout with Voltage and Temperature, and it updates super fast. I love it.
