Anyone out there have any trouble filling the gas tank? I picked up my new ride from Romney Cycle Center in Romney, West, by God, Virginia yesterday and rode it home two hours in the rain. No problems, but when i stopped to top off the tank near home, I had a problem filling it slowly enough to avoid backsplashing. I couldn't seem to get the fuel to flow slowly enough out of the pump nozzle to keep from spilling fuel on the tank. Anyone else had this problem or can offer a solution? Thanx. Terpboy

We have vapor recovery nozzles around here so the fuel comes out slow. I debated fueling with the bike on the side stand or center stand. Not sure if it makes any real difference?

I have run into the same problem on other bikes. Some stations have the pump set for a higher flow rate. Pick another station and see if if is still a problem...

Same here. I know of a few pumps near my house that have much better flow control than others. Some pumps go from off to full flow no matter how much or little you squeeze the handle. You just have to find the ones that actually vary the flow with the squeeze.

My little WR'R has the same baffle, I'm used to filling slowly. Of course that one is only 2 gallons. 5 gallons is gonna take a lot longer.

Welcome to the Forum terpboy!!! As others have mentioned, some stations have their flow pressure set extremely high and there is no way to obtain a slow rate. I had the same problem filling my FJR at many stations.

Even with the fill nozzle stuck down through the hole in the baffle you get back splash? Aerostitch sells a gizmo I think they call a nozzle key. You pull the pump's foreskin back and notch the key to the pipe behind the fill pipe lock ring. It locks the boot back to the trigger point so you can use one hand to fill and you can hold it back far enough to see your fill level and hopefully stop before she spews. The key fits in my wallet.

This might sound crazy... and im not necessarily recommending to anyone. But I normally take an -ALL- and poke a small hole at the top of that fill tube inside the tank.. After doing this I dont get the back splash out of the tank. And even better, when the fuel reaches the hole it doesn't bubble and back splash out of the tank.. The hole lets the pressure off on the back side of the fuel.... Works great.... One more thing, NOT recommending, but if your out on the road and your getting ready to pop on the high way and burn miles straight out of the station you can over fill the tank.. In the FJR tank I get about .5 - .6 gal more... Do it to all my bikes, like the benefits and never have had any issues...... I'm particular when I fill up though, almost always I DONT over fill. Normally only when im going cross country....

For those high flow rate pumps, this works well. I have one as my old K1300GT was a pain to fill sometimes without splash over.

I think that is for use on the pumps that have the "foreskin" over the pump nozzle. Like the pumps in California..
I like Don's part better, less room to take up.. :D

You notice OCC endorses this product I watched Mikey try to use one in a sales demo during a clip from their show and he managed to spill fuel all over some poor guys HD, the guy didn't seem amused at the time.

I got the feeling it was for high-pressure pumps INCLUDING the "foreskin" type in CA. The one Don found on the Riderwearhouse site is exclusive to the "foreskin" type.
