I am wondering if a different front tire would be a better way to reduce the wobble tendency, than a steering damper would be. There are sidecar-specific tires which have a flatter profile. Note that when they call these "sidecar tires" they're not talking about just the tire on the sidecar, they mean for all three positions - they are tires meant for not leaning.
On the Ural forum they are saying that Heidenau has just announced that they're going to offer their K28 sidecar tire in a 19" size. Here is what they say on the Heidenau website:
K28 Motorcycle Sidecar Tire
Heidenau K28The K28 is our newly-developed sidecar tire. Drive and steering forces are distributed over a large area of contact thanks to the angular contour of the tire. This and the stable longitudinal profile in the center of the tire reduces wear and increases mileage. High wet-grip is achieved through the use of new additives to the mixture, and the special tread design.
Sizes:
4.00 – 18 M/C 70P TT
4.00 – 19 M/C 71P TT
The Urals have the same rims in all three positions and most Urals have 19" wheels. So that's pretty clearly who this is aimed at. But I wonder if it would also fit the Super10's front wheel? I don't know how to translate between the type of tire size that is described as 110/80-R19 and the old-fashioned type of tire whose sizes are described as 4.00 – 19 M/C 71P TT. How do these things compare to each other? Anyone here know? Can you actually translate between them?
My wrecked Ural got towed away yesterday or I'd take its spare over, set it next to the Super10's front wheel and eyeball it.
