Front fork compression adjuster

I have just fitted new Wilber springs and changed the oil in my front forks.
While the forks were out I thought I would change one of the compression adjusters at the bottom of the fork as mine is chewed up and I am unable to adjust it.

As you know they are a slotted screw in to a 10mm spanner size holder that simply screw in the bottom of the fork and click in and out on the screw.
I looked on the schematic for the front forks and there is no mention of the adjuster or its mounting. So I emailed the Yamaha parts supplier Fowlers in bristol and ask about the part.

They have replied saying the part is not listed and they must come with the fork leg. ::010:: The lower fork leg is £400 inc VAT here in the U.K not to mention the work to change it as a complete unit. Obviously I would just unscrew the adjuster .

Has anyone else replaced their compression adjuster and if so where did you get it ?

I'm finding it very difficult to believe the adjuster is not available seperatly.

You can get replacement compression parts from Traxxion Dynamics in Georgia, USA. When I modified my suspension, i went with traxxion dynamics valves, shims, and "holder" mechanism.

What you are looking for are compression flow control valves. There are a few who make aftermarket versions. Ohlins and Ktech are the most common.
Usually they unscrew from the lower and you simply screw in the new aftermarket part.
I looked on the Ktech site and unfortunately they don't list one for our bikes. There is a good chance some of the other yamahas use similar adjusters and you may be able to get a used stock unit from another bike. If you have a good suspension roadracing suspension shop nearby Go talk to them. They may recognize which other models are the same and point you in the right direction.

If it were me I would Remove the damaged one from the fork and take a few pics. Post a question on the WERA roadracing forum to see what Yamaha/kyb forks use the same part and then start looking for a used stock one or a set of KTech adjusters.

Last time I installed a set on a set of Showa forks they made two different valves that covered several years of showa forks. KYB are probably the same. 2 or 3 different valves probably cover most forks over a 6-7 year run.

The units in the previous post shows compression and rebound valves that are located in the cartridge itself. This is not what you are looking for, but Traxxion would be a good place to call as well. Give them a call and they probably know what versions of compression adjusters work on your bike and may be able to source you a set.

Or give Ktech a call/email with pics of yours and they can probably sort out the proper valve.

Just reread your post and realized you are in the UK.

Contact Ktech directly or any good roadrace suspension shop in your area. I am sure they can sort them out.

Aftermarket set are usually around $140 Canadian dollars here, so probably less than 100euro there.
