Superb! Have a great trip…….what route you taking?
Portsmouth to Caen ferry tonight, then across country to Nevers tomorrow. Down to Grenoble for the night before starting on the N85 and so it will be La Mure, Corps, Gap, Sisteron, Digne les Bains, Castellane, St. Vallier de Thieu and Grasse. An overnight stay neat Toulon and another overnight stay in Ganges before riding across the Millau Bridge through Rodez and on to St. Sozy for the night before heading back to Caen for the ferry

I am aiming to stay off Autoroutes as much as possible so it will be mainly all N roads and D roads although I will use Autoroutes to join the dots if I have to.

Bring in French, you’d understand your road network a lot better than I would.
Took me ages to work out that each side of the road has their own road number

never heard of such
When driving from Holland down to Le Mans many years ago, we were going down the motorways & made the mistake of leaving the motorway to find some fuel & food.
On trying to get back on to what we thought the road was, many times it was one number away from the road we were on. For example, we got off A343 & were corralled into A344 which was the opposite direction for the same road.
Maybe they’ve changed the Highway system since then…
