I am new to the S10, having just purchased a brand new 2012 S10. Coming from the GS thing, having owned three. Looking forward to my new ride with (hopefully) many trouble free miles ahead of me. Why did I switch? I got a new bike for about $10,000 less than a new GS would have cost. I had a series of troubles and recalls with my F-GS. I am moving to Houston from St. Louis and leaving a great BMW dealer for uncharted waters. There are a host of Yamaha dealers in the area, only one or two BMW dealers.

I look forward to the adventure, no matter the bike ::018::

Welcome to Texas. I am interested in your impressions of the Tenere as your put some time on it in comparison to the BMW. Haven't pulled the trigger yet but the ST is top of my list.
We live in Brenham, not far from your new home. After you get settled contact me and I can show some roads and friends in this area...

Congrats on the jump to the Tenere and on your move to Texas. I'm not a TX native either, but I got here as quickly as I could. Love this state! Having beaten the living dogwater out of my Tenere, I think your stated goal of worry free miles will be realized. You can thrash on this bike and it just asks for more. ::008::

Welcome. It's a shame that the reliability of the GS And dealer support is driving people to other brands. If the S10 didnt land on our shores, I would most likely be riding one and suffering through all the issues I see on other forums.
I'm very happy with my choice and I'm sure you will be as well. No bike is perfect, but it has to be reliable in my books. ::012::

I am curious, what will the OP offer you as far as advise goes be different than the overall lack of issues people have reported, "or not reported" in the few years this bike has been out? Just wondering?? What are your hesitations?

OP, congrats on your jump over to Japanese Reliability and the best bike many of us have ever owned.

Congratulations on the tenere. If Merchant can't kill it nobody will. He tried very hard to destroy it in Colorado last summer and the Tenere just shrugged it off and kept trucking along. Although it did look like a post apocalyptic motorcycle.

That's not the only time he has beaten on his Tenere hard, and as ya said, just keeps going going. His bike works and performs flawless.
We all own a very we'll built and robust machine.

Nope, not at all....it's not everyday that we see that kind of destruction that early in a trip...

Welcome aboard Geno!

Congratulations, geno_rocket! I am confident your Super Tenere will give you many trouble-free miles of riding pleasure. My previous ride was a 2009 Moto Guzzi Stelvio, and although a very cool bike, it was definitely not trouble-free. I have now had my Super Ten just a few weeks shy of a year, and it has performed flawlessly.

Thanks for all the good words. I am excited to hop on the bike and ride. If things get sorted out, I will join everyone in Arkansas in October. There are some amazing roads in that area. I have ridden many of them and never gotten tired of the challenges both on and off road.

Re: Former GS Rider - me too....

I left the GS for a VStrom some time ago. Final drive failure sealed the deal for me, truly stranded in TN with no dealer - plus cost to fix! The VStrom was great, chains now lasting 30K miles with minimum maint. But the S10 really is the answer, I'm averaging 12K a year and gas and go. Getting ready to do my first valve check (can you say 26K intervals!). Enjoy!
