I have a set of Motoz GPS tires that came on my recently purchased ST. They are a great tire but are a bit noisy and rumbley at higher speeds. I am only planning to ride this bike on the highway and want a super quiet and smooth running tire that will last many miles. I have found that some sport touring tires don’t come in the right size for the ST sooooo, can I get some advice from you all about whether I should even bother with 99/01 type tires or if you think dual sport tires are the only way to go? Oh, and I will keep the Motoz tires for trading purposes.

Search is your friend, as there are already countless threads which answer your question.

Well I guess my searches have been in the wrong internet. Most of what I get when searching for on “road tires” for the ST all go back to opinions and posts about “off road” riding and tire types. I will keep looking.

There are a lot of guys here that use the tire that 'slinger recommended, Pilot Road 5, if they have chosen to go to a street only tire. I know it's a different bike, but my kid put them on his FJR, and loves them. I'm probably going to make the switch to them when my A41s are used up. But, after watching Fortnine, the Roadsport may be the ticket though for the extra grip. The A41s have been ok, but I think they're getting hard; the Texas summers are hard on all tires. They're starting to slide on dry pavement.

I don't go off road, and I'd like some more grip.

Edit: Road 5s it will be. The Roadsports don't come in Tenere size.

Hi there Easy Rider, here is a short thread I started on the Pilot Road 5 Trail tires for the Super Tenere.

Sorry I have not had a chance to test them as my injury prevents me from riding. Main thing to remember is to get them specific for the Super Tenere. They cost about 50 bucks more due to the carcass and different compound for the heavier ADV bikes.

The downfall of these tires is the fact you will not get mega miles out of them.

Thanks for all the good knowledge. With a current rebate from Dunlop and an online price match from my local dealer I am going to try some sport touring Roadsmart 3s. The ST is going in for the front brake switch recall so the tires will be installed then. I will keep the lightly used Motoz tires in case I plan a ride to Alaska.

Pretty sure the commander by michelin is good for like 20k..
Those things have the traction of wood though when it comes to wet corners. Last set I rode were on a POS beater Honda 750 (iirc) commuter bike that I was helping the guy troubleshoot and - well - the thing should have just been shot to save trouble.

This is the classic trade.

My battlewings go 12-14k but they dont stick nearly as well as a sport tire that would last 3-8k.

Should my feelings be hurt that none of CW's quotes were mine? Just asking. ;)

I've run a couple sets of Pirelli Scorpion Trail II with good results.

These were the OEM tires on my SAS. Very nice steet tire. Was surprised they were done around 5K miles due to the side wear bars disappearing on the FRONT tire.

True, the only POS bike I ever owned was DM's S50. And I only thought that was a POS because of my unnatural hatred of chrome. God, I hate chrome on a motorcycle.

It's okay. My hundreds of tire comments for my beloved Tereres still only amount to a drop in the bucket of tire reviews that exist here. Tires are the real oil thread here. Oil threads almost never get going, but tires, tires get traction. :)
