Footpeg Options

Guys I need some input.

I'm not super satisfied with the stock footpegs and am wanting to know of others who feel/felt the same. Which pegs did you choose to go with.
Maybe I'm being a cheap bastard, but $150 + seems a bit high for new pegs. I do want good quality though and for that, maybe the price is fair.
I want a peg that feels like my foot is securely planted when standing. Did any of you remove the rubber cushion of the stock pegs? I know it compresses when standing but it still feels like the foot can slide off easily.

Thanks
WJR

I know you state a price concern but, IMO, there is no better peg than the PivotPegz. None!

You want relaxed, planted, confident sure footedness both standing and sitting, they're the ones.

I've run them for several years on several bikes and they are the bomb.

I like my SW-Motech pegs too, but they do have a disadvantage over the stock pegs in that if you want to get the full grippiness of the "teeth" you need to remove the rubber inserts - they don't compress like the stock rubbbers. I believe they will be a lot stronger than the stock pegs...

I've actually been running them without the rubbers and they've been fine - but I noticed my rather expensive boots were getting torn up a bit so I put them back in.

I did see the SW Motec and was wondering about the rubber insert. Fine for street riding but would need to remove the pad for a good dirt peg. I read guys were cutting off the feelers for more clearance.
As far as the PivotPegz go. I looked at those awhile back and they too look like a very nice option. And I don't think they are much more than the SW Motec's

Were they both pretty easy to install? Are both options larger/wider than the OEM pegs? Since the Pivot pegs pivot, do you find them difficult or awkward to operate the controls? Seems to me shifting may be a little strange to get used to as the peg isn't stationary.

I don't mind spending the money for high quality equipment as long a it performs well.

Thanks fella's.

+1 on the SW-MOTECH.

In winter, I keep the rubber on....usually in spring to fall, I'm more off-road and remove the rubber. I like the width and grip of the teeth, especially as I start to get more mud and my boots get a bit slick. The width adds a degree of comfort for longer rides...although I also put on the Touratech brake pedal extender for better braking control with the extended width....another advantage of the pegs is the ability to lower for longer legs (I've got a 30 inch inseam and kept the pegs at stock height).

For those running the SW-Motech footpegs in the LOW position, how bad does it affect cornering clearance? I consider the stock pegs to be acceptable in this regard as I only scrape on occasion and that is with the stock feelers. Wondering if the lower pegs with feelers removed would be about the same? Thoughts?

Yes I think the SW Motechs in the low position with feelers removed would be about the same as stock. I know they are definitely lower than stock with the feelers on. It's nice to be able to run them on the low position though - so I jacked the bike up with Wasp's raising links ;D - that's not the only reason I did the raising links of course, but it's a side benefit.

Thanks for the feedback.

I think a little more legroom would be great for the long hauls, but don't want to give up to much in the twisties. Really I just want it all :D Plus I've been getting a little fearful after reading some reports of pegs breaking, as I stand a lot when I ride.

Thanks Biting Point for the pics of the Pivot Pegz I just ordered a set with toppers can't wait to try them out. I need more foot room since I ride everyday the stockers are not cutting it. These pegs are not cheap but they look very well made and had some great reviews from mags and Dakar and rally riders. Also Honda is including them as stock equipment on some of their CRF bikes.

The description says these can be lowered. How does that work? Do you have to choose a permanent setting, or are they simple enough to change, that I could leave them low for the four hours of flat straight roads between me and the twisties, and then switch them when I get to somewhere where the clearance actually matters?

Have mine installed they look great. Getting the large spring to compress to get the mount pin installed was a challenge and I also ended up cutting off the side stand tip that we are supposed to use to lower it. I never used that thing anyway because of it's terrible placement. When rotating the peg forward on the left side it would hit that tip so the Dremel tool took care of it. I also installed my mag drain plugs on the engine. Now just waiting on my rear hugger from HLD.
