Footpeg feeler scrapes ground

Riding home at the weekend and a corner tightened unexpectedly. I cranked it over a bit more and the feeler on the left hand footpeg grounded with sufficient force to kick my boot off the peg. When I got home I saw that the rubber insert escaped at the same time.

I dont want to mess with the foot rest or feeler because its there to prevent the center stand from grounding and I dont want that to happen.

However, when looking up the part number for the rubber insert, I noticed the peg feeler part number has changed but the replacement part is not currently available. I am hoping Yamaha has figured out that the feeler is too long (overly conservative design) and the replacement part will be shorter. We shall see...

Maybe increase your preload setting. (ES or non-ES) I'm 300lbs+, and have leaned over far enough to use the entire tread width; I have yet to touch anything to the ground. In fact I was chasing my son on his R6, down around the Kerrville area, and was leaned over to the point I could feel the back tire starting to squirm; no scraping. I have my preload set to two riders on my ES. I don't know what the non-ES equivalent would be, other than "more". ::001::

It's not really overly conservative, because the peg will contact just barely before most of the skid plates will and give you a little warning. That said, there has been at least one older Gen1 skid plate which hit first and caused an accident.

Once you get the bike suspension dialed in, you can bank it right off the shoulder of some tires like the Anakee 3 without contacting the feeler.

A number of owners, including me, have swapped out the pegs for various things we liked more. I moved the PivotPegz from my first Tenere to the Gen2: https://www.webbikeworld.com/pivot-pegz-review/

If you do want to stay stock, the rubber cover is only $7 and is the same part for all years & models (ES and non-ES). The bike runs fine without them in the meantime.

2015 ES set to 2 up, Pivot Pegs in the 10mm lower position, Anakee 3 tyres.
My toes touch tar frequently, sometimes the inner rise of a switchback turn kicks my foot off the peg and scare the cr@p out of me - still not scraped the peg, center stand wont touch.
Here are 2 consecutive pics of me in a hairpin, I am 1/3 into the corner and still pushing down.
If there was a 4th or 5th frame you would see my toe dragging.

You definitely want to check the rear preload settings. The ES model in particular seems very softly sprung. I fitted a 30% stiffer rear spring to reduce peg scraping. Also, to avoid "knocking your foot off the peg", one should always place the balls of your feet, if not your toes, on the inside peg when cornering. You'll still drag the feelers, but your foot should remain on the peg.

FWIW....my bike only has a left "peg feeler". The right foot peg doesn't even have a place for a "feeler". ???

Yeah they are all like that, only scraped left peg once, wear the toe slider on my right boot with toe on pegs, UK roundabouts ::003::

I scraped mine as well and got a good scare. Realized only 1 foot peg has a feeler. Not wanting to get that scraping again, I added a rubber washer wedge between the movable peg and its stop point, making the peg angled upwards. So far no scrapings and I've used all tire's surface area on the 150 wide tires.
