Yep the hero blob is missing from all the bikes that I've seen ... including mine. Untill yesterday. The bike on the Metal Mule stand had a part of one. ??? No idea as to why this is and I keep forgetting to ask my dealer. Can only think it's an oversight on the part of Yamaha.

The only thing I can think of is road crown in the USA. You are far more likely to touch down the left peg due to the crown of the road.

Now that is some serious turning. I haven't dragged a foot peg on a dirt bike or enduro while riding on the street before. Have done it plenty on cruisers, but not on a bike with high ground clearance like the S10.

Easily done with a KLR on the Blue Ridge Parkway or any good curve!

Or a good crown: Last time I did it was on one of the approaches to the Blue Ridge Parkway on a tight curve with a high crown...and I was not in a serious lean.

Ptfjjj, It's true that the S10 is high enough, but I've already rubbed off the outside of my "old riding boots" in just a week since we got our SILVER S10 here in Chiriqui, Panama. The bike is every thing I was hoping for and more. As we are all different, there are some features I need to "customize" but not many.
I need to look into the possibility of "wrapping" the exhaust system from the "cat box" to the muffler, as here in the tropics, that area produces a lot of heat for my wife. Next, while driving at night, the reflection off the headlight protectors needs to be "blacked out" to not be bothersome. Bar risers and road pegs are a must, and I think both "cruise control and Palm leaver" are in order, as the grips are so far apart, it changes the geometry of ones sitting stance. Also, after only a week of riding, I discovered I'd better make provisions for extra gas. I decided on the 1 gal "RotopaX" Heavy Plastic, 9 1/2" X 13 1/2" X 3" as the foot print of our Motofizz medium seat bag will just cover the tank. I welded up a rear rack to hold both after removing the stocker, and made provisions to mount a couple of helmet locks. I take a pretty good hit of air from around the tank, so I think the "Wind Deflectors" are also in order.
We'll be departing Panama the last week in March for a 3 month cruise thru our old Home Land before many more bridges fall. We'll enter at Brownsville Tx. then Ft Lauderdale, Atlanta, Hattiesburg, Ms, Phoenix, Ar. San Diego, Ca. S F Seattle, Wa. Boise, Id. Grand Canyon & area, then home to Chiriqui, Panama.

Hey GP, Thanks for the update. We all appreciate info from current owners. I know that I will be showing my ignorance, but what is a "Palm leaver?" and how does it help?

I'm also curious about the "air around the tank" comment. I also live in a hot, humid climate and was not really considering wind deflectors because I thought that I would need the airflow to keep ME cool. Do you think that you'll have enough airflow after putting them on?

Thanks,
Paul

We plan to come through there as well sometime this Spring on a quick two week trip (BEFORE the SuperT arrives). I want to go aboard the USS Midway, which I was stationed on from '63 to '66. :)

Great, look me up and maybe we can get a ride in around our local mountains. Lots of great routes here.

Midway is very good to see. I went on it a few years back. You will not want to miss seeing it again given your history with it.

Hey Paul if I'm not speaking out of turn a palm lever would be a throttle boss I'm guessing which is a part added to the throttle grip to rest the palm of your hand on and it takes pressure off your grip of the gas so to speak. They make aftermarket pieces made out of plastic that slip on the end of the grip and are held on place by velcro or tension of some kind.

Vince, thanks! Now that you mention it, I have seen those. Never thought of using one before, but I can see where it would be useful for long rides.

Yes I think between a throttle boss and a Cat o-ring on the throttle should make riding nicer. I actually saw a palm boss for the left side at the dealer last Sat. Never thought of putting one there but I could see it helping out on long rides.

Thanks for the ride offer, but we will be in the cage. Perhaps we can still meet for coffee and "kick some tires and tell some lies"!

Yes, I have wanted to visit the Midway since I first learned they had made it into a museum. It will bring back many great memories.

Left Side Only - Peg Feeler

Anyone notice they only have a feeler on the left. I had to really think twice about this, it appears the next thing to hit is the final drive. That would be bad. I know people who are bothered by this 1/8 ounce piece of aluminum and take them off (I'm not).

Interesting enough I wore my rear tire edge to edge and never touched it. This bike has plenty of lean angle.

Re: Left Side Only - Peg Feeler

I was thinking why a "perfect" engineer might do such a thing. Everybody knows that we in the US corner faster in more visually open left turns, more lean. We in the US are also delighted by our high center road crowns. More lean plus high crown equals a shorter lean angle on the left side. Now, I haven't asked any of the folks that ride on the WRONG side of the road where their little feeler button is, maybe somebody will chime in.
