Spring riding season is cranking up here in the mid-Atlantic and hopefully thoughts are returning to FODS WV 2015. Thurs-Sun June 18-21 are the official dates though I’m sure some will choose to arrive earlier/depart later. Reservation information is located in
Post # 1: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=11981.0

Hopefully all aspiring attendees are scheming and prepping. As June is just around the corner, it would be a great help towards finalize planning if I could get a projected head count.

So if you are in, please post up here and if possible include your projected arrival/departure.

Good things await in southern WV!

My projected headcount is down to 1. We won't be back long enough from out ride out west to get DM back on a bike that soon. I expect to be there Thursday afternoon. Riding Friday and Saturday. Heading back Sunday morning.

Question: I have 1000 miles on my bike so it still has the OEM tires. Am I going to need a more aggressive tire for these rides? I am not a noob when it comes to off-road riding.

There are routes available for all machines and tire combinations. Previews here: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=12025.0

The OEM tires will be serviceable.

Thanks for the feedback. I did review the routes and they look fun. My goal is to ride with a group, even if it is just one or two other riders. You seem to be the leader so I'll assume you'll be leading a group. If that is the case, which route will you ride? Is an experienced dirt rider on a S10 going to regret not mounting some 50/50 tires?

Sorry for so many questions. I am not on the FJR forum where I bet these were probably addressed.

No worries, ask away. You've never camped with us before, but some here have and I believe they would all say that we always have a great time/ride.

The groups will likely be small as there will be a range of machines and interests. I would more comfortable on an S10 with a 50/50 tire, but I have ridden almost all the routes on my '12 S10 on the EOM Bridgestones back in the day. Knobs absolutely necessary, no. More comfortable, especially if wet weather, yes.

I am the local draftee organizer but I will likely lead a group while riding my DR650 one or more days and ride two-up on the S10 another. On the DR, I will take a bastard hybrid of the Mumsey's Pie Run as I have the advantage of local knowledge that may be less obvious to someone guided by an electronic compass thingamabob. I have been running the route through my mind as I type and I can't think of any segment that I haven't ridden on the Tenere (with OEM tires FWIW). It is just a little more fun on the DR or an S10 with K60s in my case.

And I can vouch .... there is no GPS available that can match the "compassmabob" that Spklbuk carries internally in that particular area of WV. I have had many rides with him and all have been quality and memorable. Being a local to the area, I can also back up his assertion that the routes can be done on any tire but that a 50/50 tire of any sort on a big pig like a Tenere is gonna be more confidence inspiring than the OEMs or similar. Enjoy!!

Began to think you had evaporated. Are you going to be able to join us at Pipestem?

I was sure you would tell 78YZ to be very wary when I take a "wrong" turn. ::024:: Remember that gumbo ride in the rain? What was I thinking!?

BTW, one day I wrong turn stumbled onto a baby head AND gumbo free route to Briery Knob. Question is...can I find it twice. ;D

Evaporated? No... but alot more scarce now that grad school has picked up to four clinical days a week.

I just got my schedule for June and that weekend is gonna be hard to swing. I am not saying no... but it would be a mad dash up there and back if it happens.

That Briery Knob wrong turn was pure mud soup where knobbies were REQUIRED! Every time I have ridden past that junction since, I have reminisced on that day. Still... that was a great ride.

Thanks to some careful schedule juggling and lenient admins - I will be making it to Romney. Hope to catch back up with you there.

Ahem... don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but Jim's heart belongs to another when the Romney event is happening. Gobble, gobble...

Jim, my dual sport bike that weekend will look like a stripped down version of what you are riding. Really enjoying the heck out of that DR and very happy I made the switch to it. I don't know where I'm going down there, so I would like you to get me good and lost. I'm confident you can do it.

Hey man you know I admire and support you having your priorities straight on school. Do whatcha ya gotta do!

Yep as Dirt Dad said, I will 4-WDing to camp over the Romney weekend. Have birds to harass. ::024:: I had a nice but brief scouting conversation with one this morning just after daylight here at home but my calling apparently offended him ;D

Jim, you do realize if you go out riding with me your odds of having a successful turkey encounter go way up...right?

This was me last Saturday spending time with a lovely bird.

Herding Turkey 2

And it doesn't need to be just one bird when you go with me.

Herding Turkeys

Are you sure you don't want to come to Romney with me?

Tues May 19 8:00 PM is the cutoff for FODS t-shirt sale.

Early deadline is to ensure the T-shirts arrive in WV in time for the meet.

Anyone interested in a FODS 2105 T-shirt can find info and order form link here: http://www.fjriders.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=2000

A great many thanks to Extrememarine for taking this on.

Yes, there is a long story behind the BeemerDonS bastardization of the FODS acronymn. A short summary ::020:: ...

8) Tempting Jon. Very tempting.
Here's more temptation.

The view out my front door this morning. Good sized bird just walking up the driveway. Let's face it, I'm good luck for finding turkeys. You join us in Romney chance are I can scare up a bird for you.
