I've been typing a report that just goes on and on, watching the world ice outside my window today.

Those photos make me want to run away. Thank you for letting us who are ice-bound live vicariously for a couple of minutes!

Excellent day!

Yea, I snuck outta New York and made it to thawland last night!
Everyone else is stranded with canceled flights out today.

Your day still beats mine. And I'm happy for you. But I'm a free man again.

Thanks for following along guys! I'll start with the stats of the day
230ish miles
Left at 7am got back at 4pm
Things started getting real pretty at Bahia Honda state park

A railroad was built across the bay around 1900.

Bahia Honda means deep bay 30 feet it said. Some days crew worked only two 45min shift timing the tides.
Pretty beaches here
I stopped in Marathon and ordered my wife's valentine present. Hers will be early this year.
Keys fisheries. Tomorrow for supper she'll have Mahi Mahi fish dip, conch ceviche, shrimp and a key lime pie.

After I placed the order it was on to Key West. It's a beautiful ride and traffic wasn't that bad and the views were great.
Key West is a zoo with people instead of animals. This is as close as I could get to the bouy.

People wall to wall. Cruise ships must have been there. I drove by Hemingways house to many people. A trolley driver came by pulling 3 loaded cars full of people and he was saying this is the southern most point in the Continental US and that is the most illegal parked motorcycle in key west. I turned around and raised my arms and said take a picture. The people thought it was funny. Key West had to many people. I live on a 116 acre farm with a house in the middle so I wasn't gonna stick around. I stated taking side streets to get away from everyone. I drove by this place and spicy meat aroma made me find a parking spot. It's a 24 hour laundrymat/restaurant

I placed an order and then met some locals

This is Rick he asked me if I wanted a shot?
Sure what is it.
Colada Cuban coffee like expresso on steroids. It was good too. Had a nice chat with Rick originally from Boston been living here for a dozen years.
Rick went back to work and my order was up. Grilled chops, yellow rice, black beans, plantain,Cuban bread and man was it good. This was a local place that I just happen to stumble on. Cool part of my day

After I ate on the way back I hung a left on deer key. Being a country boy little deer would be like going to the circus. It didn't take long was I was on the preserve to see some

Momma here is about the size of a small German Shepard. If little people had a pet deer this is what they want. Politically correct?
I stopped at a blue hole, brackish water that the deer and other wildlife live on. This one had 2 alligators in it.

After I left here I stopped back by the Key Fisheries to get a tracking numbers for my wife's dinner and couldn't resist not eating again
Conch fritters

First time for me and very tasty!
I rode on back to camp. This is my neighbors camp. He and his wife have been coming here for ten years. They stay the month of Feb.
They have quite the pad. Nice cots in tent, freezer and refrig,TV gas grill. Good to see people enjoying their old age. Nice North Carolina couple who both grew up in the glades. He lets me use his frig too.

Well that was good day! If the ocean cooperates I may go back to the state park and do a snorkel trip tomorrow. The water here is to pretty not to be on it.

GREAT report and thanks for a couple of new ideas.

You might try the marker just after dawn, as most tourists are still turning over in their beds.

I got a feeling that's the only time someone's not around it. I met a guy from Pennsylvania at camp this morning, we rode out to Bahia Honda and swam and hung out the beaches.
I took him by the keys fisheries for some more good food.
Lobster Reuben and some gator nuggets
Just had a great day on key time. Hitting some beaches one the way back to Largo.

Gonna go see if we can find some more good food. Haven't heard from my wife yet but expecting a call.
Maybe I will take that snorkeling tour tomorrow running out of time. Paul say he had a ice storm at his house hopefully I won't have any trouble getting back home.

Funny how easy it is to make new friends when you're out on a bike. Built-in common ground I suppose - lots of good people running around out there on two wheels!

Love the report!

How true! People at work and family always ask are going alone? They can't comprehend that you make friends as you go. I'm sure it's harder in some spots than others smile and be nice people are as cool as you are. People are
really laid back here. Got the call from the wife she was tickled to get her supper. She said there maybe a piece of key lime pie left when I get home. Paul and I went to the Pilot house on the recommendation from my other camp neighbor.

Mahi prepared citrus chimichurri Tasty

Today I started my trek home. At daylight I broke camp and left my loaded bike at Paul site. He had some breakfast sandwiches made that we ate and took off for the State Park. We signed up for a 2.5 hour snorkel trip. The took us 5 miles out to a reef called Grecian Rocks. First time for me and it was great lots of different coral and fishes. Good little trip and so glad I got to go.

As soon as we got back to camp we jumped on the bikes I was wanted to get a couple hundred miles behind me today. I had told Paul I planned on riding across 41 thur the glades and do the loop road.

41 look like this. Several air boat tour places

When we got to the loop road about 8 miles of it was paved, I was
beginning to get disappointed then came the gravel swamp on both sides of the road.
When we got to 41 and Paul headed back to Key Largo and I turned west to start my run.
I didn't get far before I came on this place
Who knew Florida had its own version of Big Foot? It's called a Skunk Ape and apparently they are sited pretty often.
I don't think they was a double digit IQ in the place even after I paid my 5 dollars to go in. Here is my proof

Never been to the swamps but 5 dollars will get you a look a this
A 22 ft python
A pet heron who likes chicken liver notice the lazy alligator in background

A couple birds in cages
A couple of boy turtles trying to figure which is gonna be boss.

Well so much for my winter get away, I can say I'm off Key time and back in the real world. Only got a couple hundred miles this afternoon. I'm in a cheap hotel off I75 had a fast food burger for supper and looking at about 850 miles to get home.
I had a blast met some nice people and did stuff and don't usually get to do. If the opportunity ever presents it's self the Keys are great! I hope to take the wife next time. Great place for a winter getaway.
Thanks for following along.

850 to go. But you got 3 days available if you needed it, right?
I only ask in case you catch some nasty weather, you don't have to push through it?
Regardless, nice trip. Hope you got your sunshine fix! :)

Correct. That's the plan to have a little leeway.

I had my son hook up the trailer and meet me in Montgomery yesterday afternoon. Good thing I did this is what we woke up to

30 degrees this morning 50 degree difference from just 2 days ago.

Man, I screwed up! I owe you an apology! I've been preoccupied for a few days and didn't realize I forgot an important site to see in KW. Probably the best thing to do there is to take a fast cat out to FT Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas. It's about 70 miles west of KW & you get there on a big fast catamaran. It's an all day trip from & back to KW. You get tickets at one of the street venders on Duval St. I've been there twice and I hate it that I forgot to mention it to you. Hopefully you can go there next trip........Pop
