Pretty damn happy. No problem ordering and waiting for it to come in, total of three weeks.

Bought the S10 about 3 hours away (about two hours into ohio from pittsburgh) as local dealers did not have access or did not want my 2008 JFR as a trade. After three previous FJRs with many, many miles it was time to get something that i thought would be more comfortable. The seating position was no longer as good for my knees, wrists and shoulders (surgeries on all). And as I've mentioned before our roads in this area suck and the FJR was having me feel every sharp edged bump.

Weather promised to be sunny and mid 40s on friday but when I left id was low 30s. Absolutely no problem on the FJR with heated gear. Rode all turnpike and made it in no time. Elevated roads and bridge decks were interesting with frost but overall the trip was uneventful.

No suprises at the dealer as we'd set everything up. I transfered the titles and could be on my way. I'd ordered the yami topbox and the yame tankbag and asked the dealer NOT to install so I could do it (I didn;t say but wanted to do it the right way).

Probably surpised the dealer staff when i busted out all my tools and worked my way through the bike tightening all the items mentioned in this forum. yes the hand gaurd bolts were loose and I'd have likely lost the bar end bolts and weights ahd I not tightened (and used locttite).

I attached the top box again using the proper security torx and loctite and the tank bag as well as the lead for the heated gear. althjough by now it was noon and in the lower forties.

Took a lazy 250 miles way home mixing all kind of roads and speeds and stopping twice to let it cool down although there was no way it was going to over heat on this day.

First impression...darn thing felt tall with the seat in the high position (32 in inseam) but I was used to it from dirt biking and it really helpted stretch me out. In the first 10-15 miles I thought I'd made a terrible mistake. It certainly did not feel like the FJR and it took me awhile to "just get over it" and enjoy the ride. I think FJR withdrawal because soon I was blasting and really liking the torque in all gears. It revs very freely through all gears and that was a bit of a surprise. I thought the torque might limit it. But no it took very little to get it spinning and picking up speed. Note that I rode the whole ride in TC2 and touring mode. Figured I'd compare the other modes at a later time, was more concerened with getting it home safely. But touring mode proved no slouch when it came to performance.

THe engine has good sound both mechanical and exhaust. Not busy but a good, strong sound. The exhaust sounded better than I thought it would. At the moment I'm rethinking the need for an Akra can which I thought might be needed.

Brakes were definitely not as strong as the FJR but they got better as they bedded. Funky rear brake pedal bothered me and reminds me of the XT225 brake pedal. But you get used to it. The front is superb. I imagine stoppies are esy with the ABS turned off. I'm wondering if it is a next gen ABS since the FJR would stop on a dime even with ABS and the S10 seemed to stop a little slower?

The ergos are spot on for riding and the S10 feels like a super motard when you want it to. Reasionbly quick turning with the wide bars. No issues with the mirrors. No issues witht the standard Yami controls. The info guages are fine similar to the FJR. The screen was fine for me having no buffeting and very quiet using my shoei x-12. I used the heated gear with temps in the mid 40s and figure that i'll need a touring screen to keep the wind at bay when riding with temps in the 20s. The hand gaurds also seem a bit lacking for wind protection as compared to the v-strom guards I put on the FJR and also do not look robust enough to protest hands when off road either falling or as a brush guard?

First farkles are engine guards (givi maybe?) and a skid plate to replace the pitiful stock unit (not sure what to do for this as there are many choices?). Followed by the new can (or a reflash of the ECU) and then the side cases. The holan usa dealer is 30 minutes from my house and has a couple sets coming in so will check out the nomadas. Additionally I like the yami headlight protector but understand it is a not for the US part?

Affter a 250 mile trip home I'm sure it is the right choice at this time. As a side note i took a dirt road on the way home and absolutely loved dropping a boot in the corner and getting the help from teh TC2 as I roosted through the corner...that was cool and not quite as much fun on the FJR!

Cheers

Congrats!

I felt the same way about the brakes coming off a VFR 800. It takes a little more pull, but if you just keep squeezing she will stop - and hard - if you put the lever to it.

Congrats again - it gets better as you go. Just turned 580 miles today and I swear the thing feels smoother, more powerful, and brakes harder than when new. Maybe it's break-in, or me getting used to the bike, but it really does seem to get better with every mile.

Enjoy! And ::006::

I felt the same way after I rode off from the dealer. Now that I've got over 8,000 miles on it, the engine has really broken in well and feels much smoother. i thought it was a thumper on the first ride. I still have my 08 FJR, but the XTZ is more comfortable to ride. I may get different seat or have this one redone. But ergonomics are great and never think now about the engine. I will ride any of my bikes and like them all, but the XTZ is getting to be a favorite I think.

Yeah the engine is already starting to grow on me. looking forward to offroad. so far just dirt roads. waiting for engine guard and skid plate to do anything more serious. and yes the black completes the package. i said I'dtake the first color to come in...glad it was black.

They get better every time you ride it for the first 5,000 miles then they finally break in to perfect.
