I've just had my head turned ??? . http://f.cl.ly/items/131m1T3u0v46471b0y2V/New-AT-MCN.jpg
On a serious note I wouldn't bet on anything printed in MCN being based on truth or fact but if faintly correct Honda may well be the 1st to offer a comparable/usable/reliable competitor to the S10. That is as long as it not just a blinged up Varadero re-hash! Its certainly the 1st (potential) bike I've seen that's made me think it could be future bike replacement for my 1st Ed S10 (apologies for the blasphemy).
It will be good to have real competition rather than Marketing men's version of adv bikes that are gross caricatures of what they came from or beta test versions of something that might be sorted by its 3rd year model release :) .

I'm not so sure? RED-WHITE AND BLUE ;D

Looks like it has tube tires along with the chain?

Look at the on/off road performance chart. ::017::

I think it looks cool and hope they bring it. ::008::

Looks like Russian or French white/blue/red to me.

Maybe a UK Union Jack?

Maybe closest to the Yugoslavian blue/white/red!

With all those stripes, maybe it represents Thailand?

Seriously, I'm with the others in that it's cool but with no shaft, I'm out.

Funny...

Not too long ago I heard a rumor from some old friends at Honda (I used to be a dealer). We were talking about the Honda NC700X, and how it was now a 750 over in Europe but was still going to remain a 700 over here. A lot of the discussion was how Honda was going to go a bit back to their roots, and start using certain engine/chassis/platform designs in multiple bikes... Where pretty much the entire running gear was used with only detail changes in bodywork, etc. to make different models, like how they have made three complete bikes out of the CB500 engine and chassis (CB500F, CB500R, and CB500X).

Anyway, we talked a lot about how the 700cc "laydown" twin engine and chassis here in the USA was used in the CTX700 and NC700X... Yes, the engines *AND* chassis is identical. And we also talked about how in Europe it was sold as the NC750S, the NC750X, NC700D Integra, and the NC750 Integra. As we continued to chat they were telling me that you were going to see a lot more of that kind of thing, with entire model line-ups built around one engine family, and worldwide.

We got to talking about my Super Tenere, as well as Honda's Crossrunner and Crosstourer... And somewhere in there is when one of them said something like "Yeah, Honda is even going to have a new 'Africa Twin' based on the NC750, and it'll be real 'Adventure' styled just like the old 'Africa Twin' models."

I have no idea if it has anything to do with this newly rumored bike, but it does seem to be a bit of a coincidence.

Guess we'll see... :)

BTW, the original Honda "Africa Twin" was the XLV750R first introduced in 1983, and it was red, white, and blue...

It wasn't available in the USA, but a couple of magazine guys got a hold of ones to test, like David Edwards at "Cycle World", and according to them it was a wonderful machine, complete with shaft drive. I tried to buy one out of Belgium back then when I was a dealer, and always wished I had managed to do the deal.

You can find out more about those original "Africa Twin" models here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_XLV750R

BTW, that's the air filter cover up on top of the fuel tank. It had a huge fuel tank, but the air filter was easily accessible under that cover. Machine was way, way ahead of its time. Hydraulic valve tappets that never needed adjustment, spin-on oil filter up on top of the right-side engine case so it was completely protected, dry-sump oiling system with the oil carried in the frame, automatic cam chain adjusters, true Pro-Link suspension linkage, etc., etc.

I found it somewhat interesting where they placed it and the Tenere in the off road\performance category...... A bit too retro for me though.

Dallara - Every Africa Twin I've ever seen a pic of, and the two I've seen in person have been chain drive, (XRV750). What's the story on the XLV750? How long did they last in production?

I won't tell Dallara I did the search for you OK. ::024::
Thanks, was busy watching the Hobbit movies with the wife. ;D

Take that tooling, give it modern EFI and some upgrades and a lot of people would be happy. Keep the seat at less than 30" and even more would be happy. No mid size, shaft drive, adv touring bikes in the US right now.

First off I really really love the Tenere. After my recent visit to the desert into an ADV race, I surely started to drool after seeing the other Euro mag version of the claimed CRF1000 Rally bike. It would be good vs the 990 or 1190 new KTM. You won't catch me on one though, but a like minded Honda, yes as much as I hate chains.

Geez, guys...

That same wiki link was right there in my post, just below the picture. ::025::

And just for the record, Honda has recently registered the name "Africa Twin" with the United States patent and copyright offices, something they've never done before. I doubt they would go to that much trouble if they did not intend to bring whatever this new model is to the USA.

Still, my guess is that it is going to be some model related to the NC700/NX750 engine-family bikes we already have here. That said, nothing would make me happier than Honda to bring a "real-deal" 1,000cc twin "adventure" bike.

German Motorrad reported sub 180kg and different design/color scheme.

Something is definitely up with Honda in this category and using the African Twin name, but I doubt either of these folks (Motorrad or MCN) have it very close.
